Opel Astra Sport Tourer. What can the new station wagon offer?

Following the world premiere of the next-generation Astra hatchback in September, Opel is introducing the long-awaited station wagon version, the all-new Astra Sports Tourer. The novelty will be available on the market with two versions of the plug-in hybrid drive as the first electrified station wagon of the German manufacturer.

In addition to electric drive, the new Astra Sports Tourer will also be powered by petrol and diesel engines ranging from 81 kW (110 hp) to 96 kW (130 hp). In the plug-in hybrid version, the total system output will be up to 165 kW (225 hp). A six-speed transmission will be standard on petrol and diesel vehicles, while an eight-speed automatic transmission is an option in combination with more powerful engines and an electrified plug-in hybrid.

The external dimensions of the novelty are 4642 x 1860 x 1480 mm (L x W x H). Due to the extremely short front overhang, the car is 60 mm shorter than the previous generation, but has a significantly longer wheelbase of 2732 mm (+70 mm). This dimension has been increased by 57mm compared to the new Astra hatchback.

The luggage compartment of the new Astra Sports Tourer has a usable volume of over 608 liters with the rear seats folded down and over 1634 liters with the rear seats folded down and the rear seatbacks folded down in a 40:20:40 split. downwards (standard equipment), the floor of the cargo area is completely flat. Even in the plug-in hybrid version with a lithium-ion battery under the floor, the luggage compartment in the stowed position has a capacity of more than 548 or 1574 liters, respectively.

In vehicles with a combustion engine only, the luggage compartment is optimized with the optional Intelli-Space moving floor. Its position is easily adjusted with one hand, changing the height or fixing at an angle of 45 degrees. For even more convenience, the retractable trunk shelf can be removed under the removable floor not only in the upper, but also in the lower position, which is not the case with competitors.

The new Astra Sports Tourer with Intelli-Space floor also makes life easier in the event of a puncture. The repair kit and first aid kit are stored in convenient storage compartments, accessible from both the trunk and the rear seat. This way you can get to them without unpacking everything from the car. Of course, the tailgate can automatically open and close in response to foot movement under the rear bumper.

The new face of the Opel Vizor brand follows the design of the Opel Compass, in which the vertical and horizontal axes - a sharp bonnet crease and wing-style daytime running lights - meet in the center with the Opel Blitz badge. The Vizor's full front end integrates technological elements such as Intelli-Lux LED adaptive pixel LED headlights.^® and front camera.

The rear design is reminiscent of the Opel Compass. In this case, the vertical axis is marked by a centrally located lightning bolt logo and a high-mounted third brake light, while the horizontal axis consists of heavily tapered taillight covers. They are identical to the five-door hatchback, emphasizing the family resemblance of both versions of the Astra.

Unexpected changes have also taken place in the interior. The all-digital HMI (Human Machine Interface) Pure Panel is minimalistic and intuitive. The individual functions are controlled via the panoramic touch screen, just like on a smartphone. Several physical switches are used to adjust important settings, including air conditioning. Unnecessary cables have also been eliminated, as the latest multimedia and connectivity systems provide wireless connectivity to compatible smartphones via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the base version.

The new Astra Sports Tourer also brings a host of new technologies to the compact wagon segment. One of them is the latest version of Intelli-Lux LED adaptive pixel reflectors with anti-glare coating.^®. The system was carried over directly from the flagship Opel. Emblem i Grandland consists of 168 LED elements and is unparalleled in the compact or middle class.

Seating comfort is already an Opel trademark. The front seats of the new Astra Sports Tourer, developed in-house, are certified by the German Back Health Association (Aдействие Gesunder Rücken eV / AGR). The most ergonomic seats are the best in the compact class and offer a wide range of additional adjustments, from electric reclining to electro-pneumatic lumbar support. Along with nappa leather upholstery, the user gets a driver's seat with ventilation and massage functions, heated front and rear seats.

The driver can look forward to additional support for advanced optional systems such as the Intelli-HUD head-up display and Intelli-Drive 2.0, while hand detection on the steering wheel ensures that he is always busy driving.
