Opel Astra Sports Tourer 1.6 CDTI Ecotec Avt. innovation

Especially if we test a version with a 1,6-liter turbodiesel that delivers 136 horsepower and an automatic six-speed transmission. That's when you'll find that driving an award-winning car is also very comfortable and surprisingly economical. Let's start with the trunk, which was the main reason we even tested the Opel Astro Sports Tourer. With the help of the power tailgate, we get to the 540-liter space, which can also be increased by a third of the divisible rear bench. The bench can also be switched from the trunk, as there is a button on each side of the trunk that folds the backrest very quickly and provides even more space – 1.630 liters to be exact.

Of course, you should not ignore the fact that the bottom of the barrel will be completely flat. The size may not be quite a record, as many competitors (Golf Variant, Octavia Combi, 308 SW, Leon ST…) already offer over 600 liters. But size is not all that some girls can confirm, technique is important. So the test Astra ST also had rails and two nets on the sides of the trunk where you can safely store bags and larger packs from the store, and for the more demanding ones it had additional nets that protect both you and your luggage. The case is very useful, and if you don't want to have problems with your luggage, check out the Flexorganizer in the store.

And a compliment, although it can take up a liter of luggage space: the Astra ST has a classic emergency tire, smaller but still much more comfortable than a repair kit, completely useless with big holes. And if you combine a more useful trunk with an economical turbodiesel, which on average consumed 5,7 liters on the test, and even only 3,9 liters on a standard circle, a smooth 6-speed automatic transmission and richer equipment, then you might think, that the car is almost nothing. It's not the sportiest, not the most enjoyable in a dynamic ride, and not even the most comfortable, nor the most beautiful on the inside, but when you draw the line, it seems like it is everywhere at the top. When I was looking for cons, there were much more problems than with pros.

So I pointed to a slightly smaller trunk than the competition, and especially the autonomous operation of the semi-automatic parking, which left the car halfway on three occasions. Very strange! Then let's move on to the praise: from seats that are leather, generously adjustable (part of the seat can also be extended), with cooling and additional heating, even with a small shell and with massage options, so they more than deserve AGR certification, to IntelliLux active headlights LED Matrix (glare-free high beam!), From touchscreen (navigation, hands-free), from collision avoidance and lane keep assist to rearview camera ... Parents will be satisfied with the useful Isofix mounts, commercial passengers or businessmen who they travel, however, outside the range that, with a softer right foot, easily exceeds a thousand miles.

There is no fear that the torque will not be able to get you and your luggage to the top of the slope, that you will not be able to overtake a slow truck in time, or that you blow your nose due to engine noise, as this is very moderate. In principle, we can say with a clear conscience: good work, sails, technology really convinces. If you see a European with a backpack, know that the poor fellow probably not, so that these 750 euros more for a van (compared to a five-door) will not be difficult to deduct; if he is a Slovenian with a backpack, then he is a typical representative of the sunny side of the Alps, who also takes bicycles, roller skates, scooters, and equipment for diving and windsurfing at sea with him. And in the backpack, of course, there is a snack for the whole family. This one with the trash in the Astra Sports Tourer, despite the smaller liter, really won't have any problems.
