Opel Vectra GTS 3.2 V6 Elegance

Under the hood of the Vectra 3.2 GTS was hidden, as the car label suggests, a 3-liter engine. The six-cylinder engine has four valves per cylinder, and its maximum power is 2 "horsepower". It sounds insignificant, especially given the Vectra's 211 ton weight, but with 300 Nm of torque, the Vectra GTS proves to be a car worthy of its brand. It takes 100 seconds to reach 7 kilometers per hour, which is a good result, and the maximum speed is XNUMX kilometers per hour - enough to satisfy most speed lovers and cover huge highway distances in one day, where such speeds are allowed.

However, when using full power, this can also be seen in terms of consumption - it can go up to over 15 liters per 100 kilometers, which means that you can only go about 400 kilometers (or even less) with one tank of fuel. 61 liters is not enough. In other words: if you were really in a hurry, you would fill up every hour and a half.

With more moderate (but still fast enough) driving, the consumption is of course less. In the test, the Vectra GTS consumed an average of 13 liters per 9 kilometers, and consumption can also drop to just over 100 - if you relax before Sunday lunch. Then it also turns out that the engine can be smoothly quiet and not just sporty, that the gear ratios are sized to be lazy with the gearbox, and that the driving experience is usually such that the road is usually a pleasure.

This Vectra can also please the driver during cornering. While the anti-skid system and ESP can't be ruled out (something Opel is increasingly complaining about), it hardly interferes with cornering fun. Namely, they are tuned to allow a slight neutral slip. And because this Vectra is mostly neutral, and the chassis is a great compromise between sporty stiffness and bump damping, cornering speed (even in the wet) can be great, as is driving fun. Moreover, the steering wheel is straight and quite accurate.

That the Vectra is designed for the fast lane is also proven by the brakes. These sequential brakes are not fatiguing and the measured stopping distance was still quite short, despite rather unfavorable conditions. Plus, the pedal provides ample feedback, so you can also be careful enough if you're carrying passengers with a sore belly in their back.

The conditions for a ticket to this class are simple: a sufficiently powerful engine, a fairly comfortable interior and, of course, some prestige in appearance. The Vectra GTS meets all of these criteria. The black exterior of the test car gave it a rather sinister sporty look, and the peace of mind can be called the top color of the Vectra. The impression is further enhanced by interestingly designed wheels, xenon headlights, chrome trim and twin tailpipes at the rear. The Vectra GTS makes it clear from afar that this is no joke.

The same theme continues inside. You'll also find silver metal trim here - gauge bars, bars on the steering wheel, a bar that extends the full width of the anchor. Not too much, not kitschy, not too little to keep the Vectra's interior from being dark, despite the otherwise dark colors (quality and well-finished plastic). The visual prestige category also includes the silver-polished GTS-marked sills and, of course, the monochromatic yellow/black multifunction display in the center of the armature. The Vectra computer provides you with radio, air conditioning and trip computer information.

The seats are upholstered in leather, of course (with five speeds) heated, adjustable in height, have a comfortable design, but, unfortunately, do not hold the body very well in corners - a very powerful chassis is partly to blame for this. And about him a little later.

Finding a comfortable driving position is easy, and a two-channel automatic air conditioner also provides good health in the cabin, which very effectively maintains the set temperature. And if you go on a long journey, you'll be pleased with the fact that the Vectra also has four can holders, but only two are really useful.

T

the limbs in the rear seats are comfortable. There is enough space even above the head, and the knees are not cramped either. And since the ventilation slots are brought out to the rear seats, there are no problems with thermal comfort either.

A long journey usually means a lot of luggage, and even in this respect the Vectra does not disappoint. 500 liters of volume is already a lot on paper, but in practice it turned out that we can easily put a test set of suitcases into it - and we have not completely filled it yet. In addition, the rear seat backrests can be folded down and the opening in the backrest can be used to transport long but narrow items (skis…).

In short: the name Opel Vectra may not salivate fast-riding fans, but the Vectra GTS with its six-cylinder engine under the hood is a car that has a lot to offer – no matter the driver's mood. If the distances are not too great, he can easily switch routes with the aircraft.

Overall rating (342/420)

  • The Vectra GTS is an excellent example of a car designed for long, fast and comfortable journeys.

  • Exterior (12/15)

The Vectra's exterior is crisp and the GTS version is also sporty enough to suit a wide variety of tastes.

  • Interior (119/140)

There is a lot of space, it sits well, the quality of some pieces of plastic spoils.

  • Engine, transmission (34

    / 40)

The engine isn't the most powerful on paper, but it can satisfy (almost) every driver's wishes.

  • Driving performance (80

    / 95)

Great location on the road, good cushioning from the road - the Vectra does not disappoint.

  • Performance (30/35)

Final speed is more academic anyway, as the Vectra lags behind factory forecasts in terms of acceleration.

  • Security (26/45)

A range of airbags and electronics provide safety in the event of unforeseen events.

  • Economy

Consumption is not the lowest, but considering the weight and characteristics of the car, it is quite acceptable.
