Inspection of the car before going on vacation - what to look for

A lot of attention is paid to preparing the car for the winter, and before the summer we change tires and breathe a sigh of relief. It is right?

Michal Gogolovic, Logis service manager from Radom: – Not really. Winter is also a difficult time of year for a car and its safety-related systems such as steering and brakes. Therefore, it is worth checking the car after the winter, first of all, for your own safety and the safety of other road users. Another argument in favor of inspecting the car before the summer is keeping it in good technical condition for your own comfort and confidence.

What would you recommend to check?

- First of all, the elements of the steering system, since its malfunctions affect the vehicle's handling, the condition and efficiency of the braking system, where friction linings and shock absorbers most often wear out, which are responsible for the correct grip of the car on the ground and indirectly, along the braking distance and along the tires themselves , i.e. Simply put, the thickness of the tire tread.

What else should you pay attention to?

– Very little attention is paid to the correct setting of the low and high beams, which also affects safety. It is in our interest, especially on older cars, to check the paintwork of the body and chassis so that corrosion does not settle somewhere. It is also worth checking and, possibly, adding engine oil and fluids: power steering, cooling system, brake and washer fluids.

What can you say about the interior of the car?

– The cleanliness of the car's ventilation system is important here. Few drivers know that the cabin filter needs to be replaced, which serves its purpose for about six months, depending on the intensity of car use. You also need to check the performance and efficiency of the air conditioner, that is, the amount of cold that this system produces. It often becomes necessary to add coolant and disinfect the entire installation. There are two most effective methods to choose from: ozone and ultrasonic. Based on operating experience, I can say that the introduction of inexpensive cleaning products into the system is ineffective and gives a short-term effect.
