Features of the X-Tronic CVT CVT

The development of the automotive industry does not stand still. Japanese engineers from Nissan have developed a new type of CVT aimed at reducing out-of-box fuel consumption, noise levels and comfort. These reasons annoyed owners with stepless gearboxes. The result was an unusual solution called the X Tronic CVT.

Overview of the x-tronic CVT

The X Tronic was designed by engineers from Jatco. This is a subsidiary of Nissan, specializing in the production of automatic transmissions. According to the developers, this CVT is devoid of most of the known shortcomings.

Features of the X-Tronic CVT CVT

After careful calculations, the new box received a number of innovations:

  • Redesigned lubrication system. The oil pump has become smaller, which is why the dimensions of the variator have decreased. The performance of the pump was not affected.
  • The noise load emitted by the box has decreased. This problem has plagued most Nissan owners.
  • The wear of rubbing parts is reduced by an order of magnitude. This is the result of a reduction in oil viscosity due to the modernization of anti-friction additives.
  • Recycled more than half of the elements of the box. The friction load on critical parts has decreased, which has led to an increase in their resource.
  • The box has found a new ASC system - Adaptive Shift Control. Proprietary technology made it possible to more effectively manage the algorithm of the variator, adjusting the car to the driver's driving style.

The new X-Tronic gearbox is noticeably lighter. But this is not the main merit of engineers. The main quality is the reduction of friction losses, which directly affects the dynamics and service life of the unit.

Design features

Unlike classic CVTs, CVT X Tronic has found an upgraded pulley system and carrier belt. It received aluminum reinforcement, which made it tougher. This increased his working resource.

The box received high reliability due to the upgraded pump. An innovation is the presence of an additional planetary gear. It raises the torque ratio to 7.3x1. Conventional variators cannot boast of such an indicator.

The presence of the ASC function allowed the X Tronic to become a flexible box that can adapt to any road conditions and driving mode. In this case, the adjustment takes place without the participation of the driver. The variator independently monitors his manner and learns to respond to changes.

Pros and cons of x-tronic CVT

The obvious advantages of the new variator include the following:

  • the reduction in fuel consumption has become even more noticeable;
  • the noise of the box has decreased;
  • the service life is increased due to well-thought-out engineering solutions;
  • smooth start of the car;
  • good performance indicators.

Cons of the variator:

  • wheel slippage on snowy and slippery surfaces is possible;
  • almost completely unsuitable for repair.

The last point may be disappointing. The X-Tronic CVT is hard to repair. Service centers replace broken nodes with blocks, but sometimes the entire box is updated.

List of cars with x-tronic CVT

The variator is mainly found on cars of the Nissan family:

  • Altima;
  • Murano;
  • maximums;
  • Juke;
  • note;
  • X-Trail;
  • Versa;
  • Sentra;
  • Pathfinder;
  • Quest and others.

The latest Nissan Qashqai models are equipped with this particular variator. Some Renault models, such as Captur and Fluence, are equipped with X-Tronic due to belonging to the same automaker.

Until recently, this CVT was mainly used on displacement engines from 2 to 3,5 liters. The reason is simple: the need to save money in terms of moving around the city. But the proven variator was not limited to large brothers and is actively promoted on small engines.

Conclusions

The increased resource and reliability of the X-Tronic gearbox make it promising in terms of use. This is the solution for a quiet, comfortable ride, which, thanks to the increased gear ratio, can be dynamic. The main thing is not to forget that you have a variator in front of you and the modes of conventional mechanics do not suit him.
