Stop punctures: useful tips that will save you! – Velobekan – Electric bicycle

"I pierced the wheel!" A proposal that we all once said ... We must, of course, distinguish between a tube and a tire, both elements of the famous wheel that we are missing. In addition, the puncture is never in time, as if a black cat on rollers is chasing us along the way.

But what then can we do to avoid this anxiety, which always puts us in all states and usually makes us waste a lot of time. In this article, we'll come back to a few of the best practices and regular precautions you need to take to ride confidently.

  1. You ride regularly with your vae, your tire should be your best friend

Let's break down the open door first. Yes, the tire can be serviced, it can be changed. We rarely think about it, but just like a car, an electric bike tire will wear and tear during your rides, often resulting in a puncture. Therefore, they must be cleaned regularly to remove potential particles accumulated on the road, which get stuck in the wheel and sometimes enter the inner tube. Remember that maintenance is the main cause of flat tires!

The bike is often stored in the yard, against a wall, outside, in a basement or garage and is therefore subject to many restrictions such as climate and space. Indeed, moisture and its old age play on the fragility of its components. A tire overwintered outdoors becomes smoother and smoother and easily leaves a piece of glass or coarse gravel through and through when you ride. It also makes sense that if the tire itself is fragile, your tube will also be responsible for a lot of punctures.

2. Rim tape, kesako?

Le rim tape it is an element that every good cyclist should use to protect inner pipes your bike. Indeed, this allows cover completely bottom of the rim. And also the holes in the spokes of the wheel. This element is necessary to protect your cameras from any mechanical damage. Damage that can be caused by spoke heads, metal edges, or even rim drilling.

Rim tape is available in several sizes to fit all existing wheel diameters as well as any rim width. Depending on the type of rim you have, you need to be careful when choosing rim tape to ensure that the protection is complete and does not slip off. To do this, select a wide rim tape that connects the two edges of the rim... In fact, a base that is too small cannot completely cover the base of the rim and will be ineffective.

3. Check the pressure.

Check the tire pressure before each ride. Here's some information for a reasonable inflation.

The first thing to consider is the weight of the cyclist. In fact, the higher your weight, the more you will have to inflate the air.

The drop in tire pressure can be attributed to various reasons:

  • Natural diffusion of inflation air through tire components.

  • Changes in temperature or changes in altitude.

  • Small perforations that, when tubeless, do not immediately flatten, but can permanently damage the tire in the long term.

There are, in particular, three uses for bicycle tires. Training trips, walks and races.

Our advice: Inflate your tires within the recommended upper range (visible on your tire). It also allows for better control of your bike.

4. Change your riding style.

"Well, I'm skating ..." Of course. In spite of everything, some cycling habits are "puncture-ontogenic". Drive along the side of the road, climb the trails, choose the cycle paths without maintenance (although safer). There is nothing terrible on the horizon: shards of glass on the asphalt are simply carried away by cars and fall into these places. What seemed like a trip to save time turned out to be a minefield.

5. Watch the weather.

Weather. This is something you cannot do anything against. In spite of everything, the rain, in addition to getting wet, makes it easier for our damned glass - always his - to penetrate the rubber. There is little remedy for this other than arming yourself with a good puncture resistant tire (we got to that).

As a last resort, take a four-leaf clover ...

That's it, you have followed steps 1 through 7 carefully. Unfortunately, you are not Gontran Bonheur yet. As annoying as it is, piercing twice a week if you haven't had a piercing for a year is quite possible. Then boring, but possible. Trust your servant 🙂

Come on, kisses, kisses and good luck to everyone with Velobekan!
