Fisker Ocean Electric Luxury SUV Bookings Open: Tesla Model X Competitor Launching in 2022

The Fisker Ocean luxury electric SUV will not be a traditional offering – instead the vehicle will be offered as a flexible rental starting at $379 (AU$558) per month.

Fisker Ocean will launch in 2022 at this base price, which will be available through a subscription-style smartphone app. There will be no long-term contracts, and the brand says it will cover all maintenance and repairs, but users will need to pay $2999 (AU$4216) through 2022.

So Ocean won't have "owners" - instead users, and anyone who wants to use the service can now place an order for as little as $250 (AU$368). Users will need to take out insurance, but this will also be controlled through the app.

The company also pointed to future developments in user experience, possibly including ride-sharing, car-sharing, and even vehicle-sharing. Under the standard plan, Fisker will include 30,000 miles (48,280 km) of driving. And if you are unhappy with the car or your needs have changed, you can return it after a month.

The official full-scale Fisker Ocean show is due in January 2020, and the brand will advertise the model as “the greenest electric luxury SUV.”

Henrik Fisker, chairman and chief executive officer, said the custom subscription plan will vary according to different needs - you won't be able to fully customize the car, but you can choose from many different approaches to the theme.

“We have created five easy-to-choose option packages for Fisker Ocean that will be available to our booking holders towards the end of 2020,” he said. “This removes the complexity of complicated option configurators and allows Fisker to offer more unique features for less money. Customers will be able to see vehicles and option packages as we begin rolling out our experience centers in shopping districts and airports, as well as booking test drives through our app closer to production.”
