2020 Kia Carnival Review: More than 2000 people could catch fire because of the generator

Carnival is in a new review.

Kia Australia has recalled 2241 examples of Carnival competitors due to the risk of alternator fire.

For MY20 Carnival vehicles sold from Aug 30, 2019 to Aug 19, 2020, the recall is for a positive alternator terminal that may have been improperly tightened during reassembly.

If the positive terminal is loosened, the alternator resistance may increase, which may generate heat which may result in a fire in the engine compartment.

In such a situation, the risk of an accident increases, as well as the likelihood of injury or death to passengers and other road users.

Kia Australia is directly contacting affected owners via mail with instructions on how to have their vehicle registered with their preferred dealership for inspection and repair, both of which are provided free of charge.

Those seeking further information may call Kia Australia on 13 15 42. Alternatively, they may contact their preferred dealership.

A full list of affected Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) can be found on the ACCC Product Safety Australia website of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
