Giant is expected to sell 600.000 e-bikes in 2019

Giant expects to sell around 600.000 e-bikes this year, well beyond its original targets. A real success for the Taiwanese group, which is currently investing in the first production site in Europe.

The development of electric bicycles is a real phenomenon that benefits all industry players. Giant plans to set a new record this year as one of the first all-around brands to launch. Although it announced that 385.000 electric bikes were sold in 2018, the brand indicates that it sold some of them during the first six months of 2019.

In the second half of the year, the Taiwanese group estimates it will be able to sell over 310.000 600.000 additional units. It is enough to expect that in 2019 the total e-bike market will be 56 2018, which is 30% more than in XNUMX. A figure that goes far beyond the manufacturer's forecasts. At the Taipei Cycle Show last March, brand president Bonnie Tu estimated growth at just XNUMX%.

Increased sales, which naturally improves the group's financial results. In the first nine months of the year, Giant announced that it increased its turnover by 5,1% and generated 1,4 billion euros in revenue, of which 20% is from the electric bike business.

New site in Europe

With a significant portion of its sales in the Old Continent, Giant invests heavily in manufacturing operations in Europe. The future company located in Hungary represents an investment of around 48 million euros.

When the plant is launched, production should be around 300.000 units and will focus on the main models sold by the brand in Europe, whether classic or electric bicycles.
