Technical description

O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

What does this mean?

This Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is a generic transmission code, which means it applies to OBD-II equipped vehicles. Although general, specific repair steps may differ depending on the brand / model.

This code means that the heated loop in the O1 sensor on Unit 2 will shorten the time it takes to enter the closed loop. Sensor # XNUMX will be the second sensor after the engine.

When the O2 heater reaches operating temperature, the oxygen sensor reacts by switching according to the oxygen content of the exhaust gases surrounding it. The ECM monitors how long it takes for the oxygen sensor to initiate a switchover. If the ECM determines (based on the coolant temperature) that too much time has elapsed before the oxygen sensor starts working properly, it will set P0141. See Also: P0135 (Bank 1 Sensor 1).

You will likely notice poor fuel economy when you turn on the check engine light.

reasons

The P0141 code may mean that one or more of the following events have occurred:

• open or short to ground in the wiring harness
• O2 Heater Wiring: High Resistance
• O2 heating element resistance high
• Internal short circuit or open circuit in the heating element

Note. Usually this code does not occur due to a faulty catalytic converter. You are more likely to see a P0420 code for a faulty converter.

Possible solutions

• Replace the oxygen sensor (it is not possible to eliminate the open or short circuit inside the sensor)
• Repair short, open, or high resistance in the wiring harness or harness connectors.
