What does error code P0301 mean?

This Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is a generic transmission code, which means it applies to OBD-II equipped vehicles. Although general, specific repair steps may differ depending on the brand / model.

The P0301 code means that the vehicle computer has detected that one of the engine cylinders is not working properly. In this case, this is cylinder # 1.

Symptoms

Symptoms may include:

• engine may be harder to start

Causes of the P0301 code

The P0301 code may mean that one or more of the following events have occurred:
