Park Assist

Park AssistIt is a self-parking system marketed under this name by the Volkswagen brand. The system uses a total of six ultrasonic sensors. The driver is informed about the free seat and current activity on the multifunction display.

Automatic parking is activated by a button located next to the gear lever. Sensors measure the amount of free space and evaluate whether a car will fit there. The driver is indicated on the multi-function display on the dashboard to find a suitable seat. After the reverse gear is engaged, the system takes control. The driver uses only the brake and clutch pedals. Throughout the maneuver, the driver checks the surroundings, he is also helped by the sound signals of the parking sensors. When parking, the driver calmly puts his hands on his knees - the car works together with the steering wheel. Finally, you need to turn on the first gear and align the car with the curb. A small drawback is that the system remembers the first free space in the lane, which is still ten to fifteen meters behind him, and if the driver for some reason wants to park in another place, he will not succeed with the car. Free space detection does not work even if the car is too close to parked cars. However, in addition to the already mentioned accuracy, the main advantage is speed. It takes literally twenty seconds from recognizing a free space to parking, even with very careful work with the clutch and brake. The system can be deactivated at any time by taking control, deactivation also occurs at reverse speeds above 7 km / h. Automatic parking systems are usually supplied to car manufacturers by companies specializing in modern automotive technology. In the case of Volkswagen, this is the American company Valeo.
