We have already given calculations of energy consumption for heating an electric vehicle in winter. We've also described Bjorn Nyland's experiment with the Tesla Model X. It's time for the final movie, the winter electricity shutdown during a blizzard. This time it's the Tesla Model 3. Auto, which, like all Tesla's, doesn't have a heat pump.

Winter and frost against an electric car - the driver is not cold again 😉

Bjorn Nayland stopped in the parking lot because the road was closed. It was -2 degrees Celsius outside, it was snowing. The YouTuber activated the Camp mode in the car, which maintains the temperature at the selected level - for him it was set to 21 degrees Celsius. At launch, the car reported that the remaining range was 346 kilometers.

In order not to get bored, I started playing games, then watched YouTube. As you can see, this time he did not cover the windows with any mats, and the only insulation was the snow on them.

Effect? Power Consumption was about 2 kWthus, it was losing about 2 kWh of energy every hour. In winter, at subzero temperatures, it will be loss of coverage at the level up to -10 km / h. With a fully charged battery - about 70 kWh - it could stand in such conditions for 35 hours. It does not look cold and does not signal thermal discomfort:

The result is consistent with other tests, so we can safely assume that during a winter stop in a traffic jam, our electric car will need about 1-2 kW of powermaintain a reasonable temperature in the cabin.

It is worth adding that Nyland took the opportunity to warn that heating an engine in an internal combustion vehicle under similar conditions can lead to exhaust gas poisoning.when the wind blows behind us. As the editorial board of www.elektrowoz.pl, we do not associate such events with Poland, because situations with frost and snowstorms are extremely rare.
