Parking heating does not have to be on

Parking heating does not have to be on There are brands and devices whose name sticks even to competitors' products. Each parking heater is referred to as a "Webasto" or, in some circles, a "Debasto".

One way or another, many drivers dream of autonomous heating. Some people don't realize they already have them. Many modern diesel vehicles have an auxiliary heater based auxiliary heater.

Moreover, this system can be expanded quite quickly and efficiently, and you can enjoy heating that works independently of the engine. Interestingly, for the owners of Zaporozhets, such a heating system is not something out of the ordinary. "Brezhnev's ears" had a gasoline heater, which, even at very low temperatures, provided high thermal comfort inside. Sometimes even too high. However, it was air heating, which did not affect the engine temperature in any way.

However, let's focus on the opportunities we have today. Three main streams can be distinguished: Water, air and electric heating. Maybe this division is not entirely logical, but sorting them is easier. Water heating is something like an auxiliary heater in diesel engines. This is a rather small device with a small boiler inside. It heats up the liquid from the cooling system flowing through the device.

The whole system can work independently from the car engine. It can be activated with a watch, such as an alarm clock, with a remote control or a mobile phone. We can also program an operating time in it, which is a maximum of one hour. After this time, a two-liter diesel engine reaches a temperature of more than 70 degrees Celsius.

If we have automatic air conditioning in the car, the heating system can contact it and turn on the fan to heat the car interior. Of course, you must remember that both the Webasto and the air conditioner must get their energy from somewhere. The heating itself consumes about 50 watts, which is not that much. The fan may take longer. Experience has shown that two successive starts per hour can drain the battery to near zero. This can be regarded as a kind of disadvantage.

We should also remember that if we are less than 10 km from work, it may turn out that the battery will need to be recharged. But such minor flaws cannot overshadow the great advantages of this device. Interestingly, in Poland, drivers decide to install heating mainly for comfort. In Germany, the most important thing is the environment and the reduction of pollutant emissions after starting a warm engine.

Another system is air heating. Something like the mentioned Zaporozhets. Referring to earlier findings, this is Farelka, but partially fueled. It works great in motorhomes, SUVs and delivery vans. Wherever we want to have heat, especially in the cabin, and the temperature of the engine is not important to us. This system can be an excellent addition to water heating. Its big advantage is very easy installation, small size and lower price than water heating. The disadvantage is that it does not heat the engine.

The third system is the electric heating system. Very popular in Scandinavia. It can be installed in various versions. An electric heater of the simplest type is included in a small circuit of the cooling system. It can be installed in the branch pipes connecting the engine with the heater, or directly in the engine block in the place of the broccoli that closes the technological hole. Install the socket on the bumper and connect it to the mains through an extension cord. We can add to this a battery charging system. This keeps the engine warm and the battery fully charged.

If we want to additionally heat the interior of the car, then we place a small electric heater with a fan in the cabin. The advantage of this solution is a relatively low price, a wide range of device configuration options, ease of installation and a wide range of operation. The disadvantage is the need to connect a 230V power supply. In Polish conditions, this offer is mainly for people living in houses without a garage or with a garage covered with motorcycles.

But seriously, as you can see, everyone will find something suitable for themselves. And as soon as the device is installed in our car, we will be able to enjoy every morning the warmth, the windows without snow and ice, the trouble-free start and the envious glances of the neighbors.
