Pedals in the car. How do they work and are you using them correctly?

Pedaling in a car seems to be purely intuitive. At least that's what experienced drivers might think. However, if you are just starting to learn how to drive a car, then you should definitely analyze their functioning. A car with a manual transmission has three pedals. Thanks to them, the driver can move the vehicle. Some people may also replace the fourth pedal, i.e. the footrest, which will not have any function. It will not be installed in every machine. Therefore, the key are: clutch, brake, gas.

To drive comfortably and safely, you need to be able to effectively use the pedals in the car. It's not just about shifting smoothly and remembering where the gearbox will snap into place correctly. It is important to properly depress the clutch. Especially when he has no support. Therefore, you have to get used to each car. The degree of pressure on the brake or clutch, and even on the gas can be varied.

The location of the pedals in the car

As a novice driver, you should remember the location of the pedals in the car as soon as possible. From left to right is the clutch, brake and gas. Regardless of the make and model of the car, the position of the pedals always remains the same. The exception, of course, are cars with automatic transmission. Then there is no clutch, only on the left is the brake and on the right is the accelerator.

As for the pedals, the car must be controlled in a certain order. The point is that you will always press the clutch with your left foot and the gas and brake with your right. Remember that when you step on the gas or brake, your heel must be on the floor. Thanks to this, you can more skillfully select the desired pressure on the pedal.

It is important to understand that the pedals of a car cannot be a fulcrum under any circumstances. In addition, you should press them with the widest part of the foot. When your foot moves between the brake and accelerator pedals, you should not lift it off the floor. Then the changes will be smoother. At first, this operation may seem complicated to you. Over time, you will notice that the fluidity becomes almost mechanical and reflex.

Use the clutch correctly

When it comes to clutch, brake, and gas, their order is very important, but that's not all you need to know. Proper use of the clutch is very important for safe driving. This pedal deserves a special mention. As already mentioned, the clutch must be pressed with the left foot. In this case, it is quite difficult to keep it so that it rests on the floor. You use this pedal only when you want to change gear or move the car.

Many drivers, including experienced ones, use coupling halves. In such a situation, the foot often rests on this pedal. Unfortunately, this can lead to failure. Clutch replacement is very expensive - it can cost up to several thousand zlotys. Therefore, getting acquainted with the pedals in the car and their order, it is also worth focusing on their correct use in everyday driving.

Always remember to brake

Another important pedal is the brake. This guarantees us safety on the road. How to brake correctly? Technique should always be adapted to the specific situation in which you find yourself. If you must brake immediately, you must do so once. Then you apply the brake and must hold it until the car comes to a stop. When it comes to standard braking, we push the pedals gradually and harder, watching the effect and adjusting the pressure.

Each car has three clutch, brake and accelerator pedals. Thanks to them, you can move the vehicle. The most important thing for those who are learning to ride is to remember the order of the pedals and learn the correct technique. Proper pedaling and avoiding clutch half riding will reduce the risk of clutch failure. Properly chosen brake application in a crisis situation will help to avoid a traffic accident. As you gain experience, pedaling becomes more and more natural.
