Before you dye your hair, i.e. pre-paint guide

Color change or lightening is a serious shock for the hair. The operation is not always successful, because sometimes you have to deal with dry and brittle strands long after the procedure. That is why you should be well prepared for a visit to the hairdresser, as well as for coloring at home. What methods and cosmetics will be the best support for your hair?

We are well aware of this "hairdressing" state, when the hair is perfectly styled, smooth and without traces of regrowth. However, professionals are well aware that the effect largely depends on what we bring to the procedure. Damaged, dry and sensitive hair is reluctant to color and the effect may be short-lived. In addition, brittle strands may simply fall off after subsequent dyeing - a sign that they should be shortened and get rid of damage. In order not to cut off and keep your hair healthy, it is worth nourishing, strengthening and smoothing it with home care. How to start preparing for a color change?

Firming Keratin

Let's start with an anatomy review. So hair is made up of three layers of cells. In the center is the core (although it is only found in thick hair), and around it is a layer called the cortex, which is responsible for the color of the hair and its structure (bounce and shape). Outside the hair there is a sheath layer resembling fish scales. The latter should be smooth and closed, but we are not always so lucky and it happens that keratin scales open under the influence of various external factors. Dry air, frequent lightening treatments, and lack of proper maintenance are just some of the highlights. In addition, the ingredients of dyes and brighteners help soften the hair. Thus, they dissolve the gentle binder and open the keratin scales, allowing the color to deepen or get rid of the natural pigment. This process is possible due to the alkaline reaction of dyes and bleaches, which permanently changes our slightly acidic pH. Although the hairdresser acidifies the hair at the end of the procedure, therefore washing it with a special shampoo and applying the appropriate conditioner, it is impossible to completely restore the binder and close the keratin scales tightly. That's why it's so hard to resist the impression that bleached and colored hair is weaker, thinner and more porous. So the healthier and stronger they are before staining, the better they will look in the end and the longer the freshness effect will last.

Equilibrium PEH

If you feel that your hair is in poor condition, frizzy, static and you have problems with split ends, brittle ends, you can prepare it for coloring by changing your care for at least a few weeks. During this time, it is worth moisturizing, nourishing and balancing PEX. What's this? The abbreviation stands for: proteins, emollients and moisturizers, i.e. Ingredients of cosmetic products that must be supplied to the hair in the correct proportions. Proteins (for example, hydrolyzed keratin) repair damage in the hair structure and make them more resistant to any external influences. In turn, emollients (for example, argan oil) protect the hair, creating a thin layer on them, a kind of film that is resistant to changes in temperature and humidity. Finally, humectants (such as hyaluronic acid) are ingredients that bind water in the hair.

This PEH balanced hair care would be good to use as a preparation for a big and drastic change in the hairdressing salon. This type of cosmetic treatment works quickly and perfectly protects the hair from the next color experiment.

Here is an example of a cosmetic procedure for hair with high porosity, that is, sensitive, delicate and curly hair:

  1. start by applying oil, such as argan oil, to the strands;
  2. then wash your hair with shampoo,
  3. after drying with a towel, apply a protein mask on them,
  4. rinse and finally apply the silicone serum to the hair.

Golden rules for hair care.

To maintain healthy, strong and shiny strands, methods that work in the long term will also be useful. You will see and feel the effect of their application on your head, but not necessarily immediately. This is where you will need patience. When you look at your photos and compare your hair over the course of a year, you will see a noticeable improvement. And regardless of whether you are already or just thinking about it after dyeing, try to remember a few simple rules that will keep your hair in good condition:

  1. at least once a week, use a rich nourishing mask, you can add a few drops of oil to it, such as macadamia or coconut oil,
  2. always after washing, protect the ends of the hair with a protective serum, it can be silicone or another that is resistant to high temperatures;
  3. dry your hair with warm air and use microfiber turbans instead of terry towels,
  4. avoid excess styling cosmetics, they can also dry out;
  5. cut the ends of the hair after each coloring procedure,
  6. massage your scalp whenever you have time. For example, before going to bed. This is where a small massage gadget comes in handy.
