Switching from halogen to LED headlights in your car: not the best idea

Vehicles designed for halogen headlights can be converted to LED, but this is not recommended as this change affects other drivers and requires significant changes to your lighting system.

Most modern cars do not use halogen lights, today's models use LED lights for various reasons.

Unlike stock headlights, LED headlights work without problems in cold weather, can turn on and off quickly without delay, are generally inexpensive, although this is not the case with high intensity designs, operate on DC, tend to have more dimmability than other lighting technologies and can be made in multiple colors and patterns.

So LED lights are in fashion and look aesthetically better. Although it is already possible to modify the headlights with halogen bulbs to LED, it is not always a good idea.

In the case of a car that originally comes with a different technology and wants to switch to LED, the answer is: usually not!

When installing LED lighting where a halogen or incandescent lamp used to work, everything related to the light source is modified, that is, the size of the light source to the filament, now the LED chip, its position, the generated luminous flux, heat dissipation and the electrical component.

As a result of this modification, it is a light that blinds other drivers and that does not have enough depth, since the current LED chips do not manage to have the luminous flux in such a small space to which the headlight was designed.

In other words, the manufacturers have to make these lights with a higher intensity than the original so that it can meet the necessary illumination. This causes the accommodation to be different and to reflect on the view of other drivers.
