First: power

We have three types of batteries: in older cars, often remanufactured repair batteries, i.e. those in which it is necessary to check the level and concentration of the electrolyte, the so-called maintenance-free with plugs that can be unscrewed to fill the cell with distilled water, and are completely maintenance-free.

We have three types of batteries: in older cars, often remanufactured repair batteries, i.e. those in which the electrolyte level and concentration must be checked are so-called maintenance-free with plugs that can be unscrewed to pour distilled water into the cell and are completely maintenance-free as nothing has to move.

In the case of highly computerized car models, inept starting of the battery can destroy all the electronics, requiring serious intervention in the workshop. So with such a car it is better to go to an authorized service center.

A battery with traditional “baby” plugs costs about PLN 115, and a branded, maintenance-free 45 amp-hour battery costs PLN 140. Of course, you can buy it “on sale” even for 60 PLN, but the guarantee of durability in this case is sometimes in doubt. Branded batteries for large cars cost an average of PLN 130 to PLN 320.

However, the drive does not boot with battery. Therefore, before winter, it is worth checking the V-belt that drives the alternator, which supplies electricity to the car's devices and recharges the battery. If it is loose, it slips and the alternator does little to help. On the other hand, if it is too tight, it can destroy the generator and water pump bearings. A worn belt must be replaced with a new one to avoid unpleasant surprises associated with its breakage along the way. If we are not DIY enthusiasts, let's outsource this activity to specialists in the workshop.

By the way, it is also good to check the connection of the starter to the battery and the contacts of the first one, as well as to look through all the wires and strip them if they are dull. We can do some of these things ourselves.
