Peugeot 107 - forever young conqueror of cities

Despite its eight-year presence on the market, the economical and agile Peugeot 107 does not give up. Last year's anti-aging treatment has removed some of the wrinkles, and proven equipment and better prices should make it easier to fight against much younger competitors.

The Peugeot 107, with its twin models Citroen C1 and Toyota Aygo, has been in production since 2005. After three years on the market, the smallest car with a lion on the hood has undergone a delicate facelift, which was limited mainly to refreshing the front of the body.

Last year, the urban Peugeot was upgraded again. Once again, the focus was on the front of the body. The changes benefited the model. First of all, the radiator air intake, which was previously caricaturely large, was reduced. An updated Peugeot logo is on the hood, and LED daytime running lights are installed on the new bumper. Inside is a comfortable steering wheel that, like the new gear knob, is sheathed in leather.

The amount of space in the cabin can be considered satisfactory. Ahead, they didn’t even give high grounds for complaints. If the height of the driver and passenger does not exceed 1,8 meters, two adults can still fit in the back seat. Of course, the amount of space is limited, so further trips are pointless. The seats aren't overly wide, their profiles are poor, and the rear seatbacks are slightly tilted, which can be tiring on long journeys. In addition, every extra kilogram on board clearly limits the temperament of a not very strong car.

The meager capacity of the luggage compartment also excludes further travel. 139 liters with the rear seats up is enough to carry a medium-sized bag. The luggage compartment is short and deep, so larger items have to be stowed in the back seat. There was no trunk light. Advantages? The sofa is divided 50:50, and with the seats folded down, the trunk volume increases to 751 liters. Under the floor is a full-size spare. The hatch is made entirely of glass. The solution looks interesting and successfully replaces ... parking sensors. If you look while parking, you can easily see the top of the bumper of another car.

For interior trim used hard plastic with a not very complex texture. They are semi-gloss, which means that on a sunny day, most of the dashboard is visible in the windshield. On the doors, plastic is painted - a body-colored sheet shimmers on their front and top. There are other savings as well. There are no central vents, the glove box does not lock, there is no on-board computer even for a surcharge, the rear windows recline, and only the switch on the right door is used to control the power window on the right door. from the passenger side. The cabin was not perfectly soundproofed. The sound of the engine penetrates into it, and when driving in the rain, you can clearly hear the water whipping on the chassis.

But you can boast of the solidity of the assembly. Even when driving through the pits, the interior does not make unpleasant noises. The instrument cluster and optional tachometer are attached to the steering column. An unusual decision deserves praise. The position of the indicators changes depending on the angle of the column, which reduces the likelihood of them being covered by the edge of the steering wheel.

The Peugeot 107 is only offered with one engine, the Toyota 1.0 VTI three-cylinder. The engine is noisy, and at idle a slight vibration reminds you that the fourth cylinder is missing. Gearbox gear lengths are surprising on first contact with the car. On the "difference" you can accelerate to 50 km / h, on the "deuce" 100 km / h ends, and on the "troika" Peugeot 107 reaches the speed of the motorway! Specific gear stages affect flexibility. The heart of the Peugeot 107 comes to life when it exceeds 3500 rpm. Due to limited flexibility, most maneuvers must be preceded by a downshift. Due to the average accuracy of the gearbox, the lesson is moderately pleasant.

All this ceases to matter under the distributor. The average fuel consumption is about 5,5 l/100 km. Who regularly presses the gas to the floor, he will receive an average of just over 6 l / 100 km. Outside the city, fuel demand drops to less than 5 l/100 km. Is a typical city car suitable for driving out of the city? The power unit develops 68 hp. at 6000 rpm and 93 Nm at 3600 rpm, both have to contend with low weight - the Peugeot 107 weighs 800 kg.

Travel outside the city limits is possible, since the Peugeot 107 has no problem maintaining speed on motorways. However, the driver must be mindful of using low gears and high revs. On the "five" acceleration and maneuverability are practically absent. Peugeot claims the 107 reaches 12,3 km/h in 157 seconds and hits 100 km/h. The measured acceleration on winter tires turned out to be somewhat worse, but still it can be considered sufficient. Dynamics drops significantly after exceeding XNUMX km / h. The number of passengers on board also has a huge impact on performance.

The aforementioned low weight forced a rather stiff suspension setup, which makes the Peugeot 107 ride surprisingly well. Anyone exceeding the speed will experience slight understeer. However, the way the inequalities are chosen is not impressive. The French kid does the worst with short transverse bumps. The steering system is direct, and the right assist power means the driver gets the right dose of knowledge about what's going on at the interface between tires and asphalt. Plus a turning radius of 9,5 meters. Thanks to this, you can turn back "immediately" in many places.

Prices are the least pleasant point of the program, although it must be admitted that the emergence of competitors in the form of Skoda Citigo and Volkswagen up! it's gone forever for clients. Two years ago, the basic version of Happy (from PLN 35) did not even have power steering, while for a well-equipped Peugeot 107 Urban Move with air conditioning you had to pay PLN 40. An additional pair of doors increased the amount to almost zlotys. zloty Of course, we are talking about the amounts in the price lists. Sale of the yearbook and skillful negotiations allowed the amount in the invoice, but the first impression (“it is expensive”), so it remains.

The entry of dangerous competitors into the market forced Peugeot to significantly revise the price lists and simplify the lineup. Instead of the Happy, Trendy and Urban Move versions, we only have the Active variant, which comes standard with manual air conditioning, a pollen filter and power steering. Peugeot valued the 2012 cars at PLN 29 (950 others) and PLN 3 (31 others). This year's cars cost 300-5 thousand. zloty. This is a big change for the better.

The list of options includes, among other things, a tachometer (PLN 250), side airbags (PLN 800), metallic paint (PLN 1500), an audio system (PLN 1500), air curtains (PLN 1600), ESP (PLN 1750) and 5- speed automatic transmission (PLN 2600) . It's a pity that security systems are so expensive. The smallest Peugeot averaged three out of five stars in EuroNCAP crash tests.
