Test drive Peugeot 2008: moments of France

Peugeot partially refurbished its 2008 small crossover

As before the 2008 Peugeot upgrade, it continues to rely on Grip-Control as a replacement for the missing dual transmission option. The lack of four-wheel drive is fully justified for such a product and is becoming more and more common in the 2008 segment - it's just that owners of this type of product rarely want to drive their cars cross-country, and they don't need them at all. variety of 4x4 systems.

Advanced traction control

However, the 2008 Peugeot has a lot to offer when the road surface under its tires gets unfavorable - with a knob located behind the gear lever, the driver can choose between five modes of operation of the traction control system. Depending on the selected setting, the control electronics can reduce the power transmitted to the front axle, improve traction or apply a braking effect on one of the front anti-skid wheels. In other words, the advanced electronic traction control function mimics the action of a classic front differential lock. The M&S tires on offer should also help in some more difficult situations. In fact, the solution is presented exactly as expected - as a useful assistant in case of suboptimal traction, but not as a full-fledged replacement for dual drive. Which is really great.

Exterior changes to the 4,16m length include some tweaks to the layout of the front and rear of the car, which should update its look. New decorative elements have also been added, some of which are chrome-plated. There are also two new lacquer colors (Ultimate Red and Emerald Crystal, which you can see in the test sample photos).

The main thing that has been criticized so far has remained virtually unchanged - it's ergonomics in an otherwise spacious and pleasantly bright with an optional glass panoramic roof of the cabin. The idea behind the so-called Most of the i-Cockpit's functions are controlled by a large, tablet-like touchscreen center console, an idea widely used in today's automotive industry, but that doesn't stop the idea from being impractical while driving, especially when available. not quite logically structured system menus. The reason why Peugeot still sticks to the idea that the controls should be located above rather than behind a small steering wheel with great traction remains a mystery. It is not particularly convenient that the position of the rotary knob of the already mentioned Grip-Control system in many cases remains a secret for the driver, since the light indication of this is practically invisible in direct sunlight.

However, there is no reason to criticize the high seating position, which provides good visibility, nor the interior space, which is at a good level for this class. The robustly designed luggage compartment holds between 350 and 1194 liters, the boot threshold is pleasantly low (just 60 centimeters from the ground) and the practical interior volume conversion concept provides flat-folding rear seats.

Familiar picture under the hood

Under the hood of the 2008 Peugeot, everything remains the same - the cultural three-cylinder petrol engine is still available in three versions (82, 110 and 130 hp), and the 1,6-liter diesel is available with 75, 100 or 120 hp. With. With.

The test car was equipped with a gasoline engine of medium power - 110 hp. paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. In addition to pleasant manners, the speaker makes a good impression with ease of acceleration and overall good dynamics. The torque converter automatic proved to be a worthy partner for a modern turbo engine, although in some situations its manners are inferior to those of a 1,2-liter unit. Fuel consumption in the combined driving cycle is about eight liters of gasoline per hundred kilometers.

On the road, the Peugeot 2008 is pleasantly nimble and, especially in urban conditions, is a pleasure to drive. At the same time, however, the model behaves quite "like a man" at a high speed rate, where only the aerodynamic noises from the tall body remind that this is not the crown of discipline for a model of this caliber.

Among the model's new offerings is an emergency braking assistant operating at speeds up to 30 km/h, as well as the ability to connect the infotainment system to a personal mobile phone via MirrorLink or Apple Carplay technologies.

CONCLUSION

Peugeot 2008 remained true to its character - it's a nice nimble urban crossover and a 1,2-liter gasoline turbo engine with 110 hp. matches his character.
