If the car will stay on the market for 12 years, designers, strategists, engineers, management and, perhaps, someone else should be congratulated from the bottom of our hearts. Since 206, they've achieved what everyone in the automotive industry wants: write history.

Making a car that after 12 years is still beautiful, mostly of modern shapes, but above all, with a favorable ratio between what is offered and the amount of money invested, you will probably succeed only once. Or not yet.

Peugeot has done well with the 206, which has long paid for all the efforts and financially justified the plan. It's time to make money, because the cars have paid off long ago.

Probably not worth losing a lot of words about the form. She is still the darling of women's hearts, and she is still a man behind the wheel (usually) just because she can't get out on the road. Unlike the older 207, the 206 is attractive for its small size, so it is also perfectly visible behind the wheel, and until you get into a new car, less demanding drivers will soon find that there is nothing in it.

In the mature period of his life, he received some new features resembling larger models (facade, lamps), otherwise the main image is almost identical to that of the previous millennium. Hehe, sounds a little scary, doesn't it?

Girls, if this is your first car, then (probably) you won't miss anything at all. Before you buy, there's only a warning not to get into the 207 at the dealership, which is when you quickly notice that the new cars have grown a lot, that the successor is 195mm longer, and the installation space is 98mm longer. shoulders of front seat passengers.

But size isn't everything, I heard somewhere. Two hundred and six after a good decade, we admit it. the outside is still very fresh, but with regard to the interior, we cannot demand this.

Rotary switches for ventilation and air conditioning have long been a waste of history as modern designs use more convenient and less space-consuming buttons. Likewise, outdated is the thin and small screen at the top of the center console, which in the 206+ only displays basic radio data, and you can't get data from the on-board computer on it because it's not there.

And while you can easily survive without any data (say, without the average fuel consumption, which you can calculate at a gas station), we missed the display of the outside temperature in winter.

Of the safety systems, the 206+ has only two airbags and an ABS system, an additional 200 euros for side airbags and an additional 200 ESP for cruise control and a speed limiter? Forget it.

That's why it indulges in daytime running lights (ha, some competitors still don't offer it despite the new year!), Mechanical air conditioning, power steering, (very loud) central locking and electric power-assisted windshield controls.

No, the main difference between 206+ and 207 is of course safe (207 in the EuroNCAP test is excellent, 206 is good with four stars at present) and driving position. While the 207 is simply king considering both size and ergonomics, the 206+ will only satisfy smaller riders. We scolded the seat 12 years ago and trust me, it hasn't improved over the years.

It's just too soft, too few side supports and, above all, the seat surface is too short. With the remote steering wheel, you will have the feeling that the pedals are too close and the steering wheel is too far away. And if you have kids, you'll miss another inch in the backseat and trunk, which is just 245 liters. The larger 207 has a 270-liter base boot, as well as a split rear seat, which the 206 cannot boast of.

Already in the last millennium (it sounds like a carriage) we were impressed by the transparency, which will also be painted on the skin of young girls in 2010. The 1-liter, 4-horsepower petrol engine is not a technical gem, at least in the era of small turbocharged units.

But let's not get greedy, he does his job well enough. As long as you don't want to be the fastest on the highway (five gears), it will be smooth and relatively fuel efficient, and at low revs it will be nervous enough that the townspeople don't look ugly at you.

There is enough torque even when you take all your best friends to the party and you probably don't think about towing a caravan, do you? We only attributed the mechanics to a loud and inaccurate transmission (I don't know which is more annoying, or listening to broadcasts or comments, saying look at this, he has no idea ...), but from the first test we are still happy with the predictable chassis and reasonably responsive power steering.

And if in 1999 we praised handling and stability, today we will only praise predictability. The handling and stability of the new cars has improved dramatically, which is perhaps unsurprising as the (large) tires have a wider wheelbase in favor of the extreme angles of (already large) cars. Maneuverability remains, however, making the 206 one of the nicest cars in the urban jungle.

Colleague Puchihar concluded the big test by saying that the biggest advantages of this machine are its original shape and attractiveness to the fairer sex. However, in 2010 we can only add: so far.
