Peugeot 207 SW 1.6 HDi (80 kW) FAP Trendy Outdoor

The acquaintance is intended only as a joke, since it is known that we do not drive around the house in real cars. At least not on purpose. Outdoor is, in fact, a completely classic 207 SW with all its pluses and minuses, only they modernized it a bit.

The suspension is taller and looks more robust, yet appealingly playful. At first, it makes sense to clarify that the Outdoor is not a special model in the primary (body, class) sense, but is a modernization of the central equipment Trendy P207 SW (ABS, four airbags, electric front windows, remote control). central locking, height-adjustable driver and front passenger seats, Isofix child seat mounts, electrically adjustable and heated rear-view mirrors, on-board computer, manual air conditioning, radio with CD player).

The Outdoor has no gearbox or all-wheel drive, and the tires are completely off-road, so it is not designed for off-road or off-road driving (with larger tires and all-wheel drive) capable of classic soft ride. SUVs. The warning not to throw yourself in the mud with Outdoor is more than appropriate.

With 16mm front suspension and 21mm rear suspension (compared to Neoutdoor) and nose protection plate, Outdoor is more suitable for parking with its bow over curbs, for climbing on raised surfaces (curbs) and for driving on snow (limitation) with rubber) ... Since the body is taller, it also sits higher, but the height adjustment of both front seats also allows it to sit quite low. In principle, the higher position provides a better view of the environment, but due to the short nose, the front is still poorly visible and the steep rear remains as steerable as with the regular SW. Since the glass surfaces are the same as those of the previously mentioned model, there are no differences between them in terms of the brightness of the passenger compartment and the view from it.

The space inside remains the same: there is enough space for four adults of average height, and a crowd is created if three benches sit on the last, rather hard (in terms of upholstery) bench. The fact that Outdoor is higher is known when entering and leaving, when it is necessary to pay more attention to the dirt on the windowsills.

The trunk height is higher due to the raised rear, but the trunk, along with all its liters, negligible loading edge and folding flat-bottom (two-thirds, one-third) rear seat backs, is still one of the best. things about this peugeot.

A useful rear end makes sense with Outdoor spice and is a logical answer to the question of why the body is raised and protected by additional plastic (fenders, sills). Such a car is a great help for the driver in various matters, but keep in mind driving on a cart to a distant corner or, more likely, transporting sports equipment and all children's toy robberies at a picnic ...

With the Two Hundred and Seven SW Outdoor, there is less fear of getting stuck on a lightly imported track or singing with a bumper when cornering. And even when driving the worst route until the weekend, there is a high likelihood that the lower SW will get stuck somewhere. Maybe some buyers just like the 207 SW SUV more than the classic one. This is also possible.

However, the changes made (on both sides) of the Outdoor labels are not just about looks and equipment. The driving experience is also different. Due to the higher center of gravity, the suspension has become stiffer, which is noticeable in the driving comfort, which has deteriorated and already borders on comfort in some sports versions. The result of the changes was a compromise: a tougher and less comfortable Outdoor, on the one hand, and more sovereign than expected in corners (less lean), on the other.

With a 1-liter HDi (6 kW) engine such as the test we tested many times, the Outdoor on the road is powerful enough for everyday tasks. The fact that the gearbox, the lever of which does not like very fast shifting, has only five gears, is only a disadvantage on the highway, when the tachometer reads 80. If you specify less, consumption and noise will be lower.

There is enough torque and even when driving uphill it is difficult to lose weight. The engine starts at a speed of 1.000 rpm, starts running at 1.500 rpm, and from 2.000 rpm it is already possible to write about the start. The volume is within normal limits. Fuel consumption is not commendable, which in our test did not exceed 6 liters, and on average the test 6 SW 207 HDi drank 1.6 liters per 100 kilometers. Friendly wallet.

The price is less pleasant, as the Peugeot 207 SW "Exterior" with the most powerful HDi costs almost 18 thousand euros (if you equip the standard metallic paint), which is already as much as you pay for, say, a larger and more spacious Kia Cee'd SW. We were annoyed that with this equipment (Outdoor) it was impossible to select a separate opening for the tailgate.

  • Peugeot, very good move! Only lovers of softness will be disappointed, because this car does not have it. Practical and spacious, it is motorized and can handle everyday tasks, making it ideal for a small family.
