Test drive Peugeot 208: Right on target

Peugeot is revamping its bestselling 208.

All engines in this range are now Euro 6 compliant, and the model also boasts enhanced equipment options and more efficient drive options.

Known for their pleasant temperament and low fuel consumption, Peugeot 208 three-cylinder engines have every chance of becoming even more attractive to buyers of the model in the future - for two reasons. The first and foremost of these is the introduction of a new variant equipped with a turbocharged turbocharger that produces 110 horsepower and a maximum torque of 205 Newton meters at 1500 rpm. In a modification with atmospheric refueling of the same engine, these figures are 82 hp. respectively. and 118 Nm. The NEFZ average fuel consumption is 4,5 l / 100 km, and in real conditions it is quite expected to be much higher, but again moving towards the lower limit of the usual class.

Peugeot 208 with a vigorous three-cylinder petrol turbo engine

The theoretical advantages of a small turbocharger are in line with reality. The idle thrust gets a little more, the engine is kept relatively low rpm most of the time, and it also runs great with almost no typical vibration in most three-cylinder engines. In addition, the gas supply reactions are almost spontaneous, as in the classic atmospheric filling.

The second interesting novelty in three-cylinder engines is the possibility to order the already mentioned turbo version with a completely new six-speed automatic transmission with a torque converter developed by the Japanese specialist Aisin. The new automatic finally gives Peugeot 208 buyers a truly compelling alternative to the traditional manual transmission – unlike the frankly compromised automatic manual transmission, shifts are quick and smooth, and the balance between comfort, dynamics and efficiency is really struck.

Renewed vision

Traditionally, a partial update of the model does not take place without retouching the style. In the case of the Peugeot 208, the changes are more evolutionary than dramatic - the front end has taken on a more distinctive look, new LED elements have been added to the headlights and taillights, wheels with new design have been added to the lineup, as well as several additional basic elements. paint colors. Among the latter, of particular interest are Ice Gray and Ice Silver, which, with their matte surface and slightly grainy structure, on the one hand create an interesting design accent, but also have purely practical advantages, as they are less affected by the weather and are affected by the weather. more resistant to stains than conventional model lacquers. Another new addition is the GT Line package, which gives the Peugeot 208 much of the exterior and interior sporting flair of the top-of-the-line GTi variant.

Peugeot has also taken care of some improvements in the equipment of the model: thanks to the Mirror-Screen technology, the driver can turn the touchscreen of the center console into a mirror version of the screen of his smartphone, and the functionality of the active parking assistant has been expanded by adding a camera. provide regression. Active City Brake, in turn, provides automatic emergency braking in urban environments.
