Peugeot 406 Coupe 3.0 V6

We had a silver one, but you can think of red, and then some outsider will really think that you have a Ferrari. The Peugeot 406 Coupe continues to be an extremely attractive, emotionally charged and eye-catching vehicle, even though it has been 4 years since its inception. With his Ferrari nose, he swallows the road very quickly if he has a six-cylinder cavalry hidden under the hood, as was the case with the test car.

If necessary, the driver can mobilize 207 sparks of horsepower by pressing the accelerator pedal against a sheet of metal, which growls loudly there somewhere around 6000 rpm. Since the engine has a 60-degree angle between its two rows of cylinders, it easily moves towards the red field without creating adverse vibrations. The ratio of the diameter of the barrel and the mechanism (87, 0: 82, 6 mm) also speaks volumes about its nature in favor of the former.

So flexibility at low revs is not a feature of it, although the good 200 Nm that the engine develops at very low revs is more than enough for cruising. It really does go to 3000 rpm, and further north it wants to be sporty in sound. It's a shame the gear lever doesn't follow the engine: the gear ratios between gears are well balanced, but lightning-fast shifting is hampered by periodic disruptions.

The interior, with the exception of the front and rear seats, which are excellent (!), Too civilized. There are some French features in ergonomics, which means that hands and feet will take some getting used to. There were no comments on the quality of workmanship, the front seat impressed us, and the spaciousness surprised us in the back. In the trunk, that's enough too.

The little Ferrari lives up to its reputation for cornering. The steering gear is overly reinforced and therefore does not provide the best possible response, but the stiffer sports car grips well and handles well. The front wheels do not skid much, the rear wheels are quiet. The brakes stop well, which is important, since the acceleration to 100 km / h in 7 seconds equaled the factory promised.

If you don't have money for a Ferrari, this Peugeot is more than a great solution. Exclusivity will be guaranteed!

  • The car offers a very good value for money. It also impresses with its everyday practicality (interior space and trunk), and its design attracts almost as many looks as a Ferrari.
