The different body lines are not enough to imbue the so-called cars with a sporty soul. The representative of this company should have a lot more. First, the reputation. The interior and the feeling in it should also be subordinated to this, which should not hide the sportiness.

This means that it must be cramped and spacious enough for the family to travel comfortably. Or four adults. We must not forget the dynamic chassis, which can quickly become too stiff and uncomfortable. Last but not least, the engine, gearbox, steering gear, brakes and all the rest of the mechanics must be adapted to all of this.

If we look at the past, we find that Peugeot did not pay much attention to these merits. At least not in the class that the 407 was in. However, smaller models did more for them. And when we think of them, we can admit that Peugeot still enjoys a reputation for sporty souls.

This 407 is undoubtedly confirmed by the form that we could write, which at the moment represents the culmination of perfection, in which elegance and aggression merge. I haven't had so many enviable looks for a long time.

I know it’s not because of me. Some are confused by the asymmetry of the front and rear, but thanks to this we can finally talk about something new. About a new design, for which Peugeot designers and leading people should certainly be congratulated. Not only for their work, but especially for their courage.

The fact that the 407 is indeed a new car, you will also find inside. You won't find the slightest of what the 406 has to offer. The gauges are new, as is the center console. Also new is the superb three-spoke leather steering wheel, gear lever and seats.

Well, the latter is undoubtedly the shape of the dashboard. Due to the extremely flat windshield, they had to pull it closer to the rear of the car, which made the driver feel like sitting in a much larger car behind the wheel. This, of course, has its advantages, especially in terms of safety, as the distance from the front bumper to the driver is slightly greater.

On the other hand, the tax for this is included in the longitudinal offset of the two front seats, which can quickly become too short (we mean mostly taller drivers), and in the rear seat space. This is the third thing that should be clearly in cars with a sporty soul. And you will find it here too.

And not only in the back seat, but also in the trunk. A volume of 430 liters is no less and not the best of what cars in this class offer. From a set of suitcases, we try again and again to stow the trunks of the test cars, one had to remain outside.

However, if we think about the benefits that the 407 offers, then the smaller backseat and trunk space can be easily forgiven. The obvious progress the 407 has made over its predecessor is hard to imagine these days, especially with a brand with such a strong reputation. This is undoubtedly further proof that Peugeot is determined to take on new frontiers.

Already behind the wheel, you can feel that the car is more compact, that the materials are better, the handling is more precise, the ergonomics are improved and the feeling is much more sporty. The richly stocked instrument panel contains up to five gauges: speedometers, engine speed, fuel level, coolant temperature and engine oil.

All of them are highlighted with a white background and trimmed with chrome, and glow orange at night. The center console is richly stocked, for which you have to pay an extra 455.000 tolar, so in addition to the radio with CD player and CD changer and two-way automatic air conditioning, you can also think of a telephone and sat nav along with a large 7-inch (16 / 9) color screen.

And it's not only for navigation, but you can also watch DVD movies on it if you like. But that's not all. Many of the functions integrated in the center console can also be operated orally. Well, this is already something that we usually encounter only in the most expensive limousines, and there they are more expensive.

Even if you don't opt ​​for the lavishly equipped center console, it must still be admitted that with the 407 2.2 16V ST Sport label, you still get a very decently equipped car.

In addition to all the necessary safety, there are also accessories such as ESP, ABS, ASR and AFU (emergency braking system), there are also electrically adjustable all four windows in the doors and outside rearview mirrors (they are also folding), remote locking, rain sensor and trip computer, two-way automatic air conditioner and radio with CD player. Moreover, it is worth mentioning first of all what is meant for the driver. And if you are one of those who know how to enjoy the trip, you will appreciate it even more.

That the 407 swam in sporty waters is not only reflected in the open-jaw-like shark's front end, fog lights and 17-inch wheels that come standard on this kit. How much he wants the 407 to float in these waters, you can feel when you board it and get caught between the bends.

Make no mistake, even a perfectly normal 120 km / h highway ride in sixth gear can be very enjoyable. But he already knew this 406. But he didn't end up in the corners as much as a rookie. The excellent chassis with double triangular cross-rails at the front and multi-link axle at the rear, as well as the combination of a powerful 2-liter engine and a six-speed manual transmission, are certainly a good recipe for everyone. something more athletic.

Of course, you shouldn't think about fuel consumption, because despite the fact that the engine has only four cylinders, it is unlikely to fall below 10 liters per hundred kilometers. This is why other things will worry you. For example, the flexibility and sound of the engine that it calls above the number 5000 on the rev counter. Despite the fact that acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h is not among the maximum ones, and even despite the fact that the electronics stops injection at 6000 rpm.

But the excellent positioning, communicative and fairly straight steering and excellent brakes just don't leave you discouraged when you look at the corners in front of you. And this despite the fact that the electronics automatically take over the work of the ESP at the moment of exceeding the speed of 30 km / h. Fortunately, this is programmed to allow the car to slip slightly, although then it corrects rather roughly.

This is further proof of what the 407 is striving for. And there is no doubt that in the future we will talk much less about the refined elegance of the Four Hundred Seven, which Peugeot has obviously already overdone, and therefore even more so about the sophisticated aggression.

The French say about the new 407: "Finally, a car again." Personally, I got along better with his predecessor. The 407 just hasn't convinced me in any area to say it's really good or better than the competition. Perhaps I expected too much, but in this class I have driven cars that are more "cars" than the Peugeot 407.

I like the design, which is not strange at all, since it frankly flirts with sportiness. For a Peugeot car, the driving position is relatively good, I also liked the development of the engine (four-cylinder quiet and calm), only when shifting gears… well, with the right one you feel every gear! However, there is nothing in this car that would prevent me from falling asleep.
