Peugeot 5008 1.6 THP (115 kW) Premium

How successful? Statistics say that Peugeot sold 118 Five-Thousand Eights in the first four months of this year. The average customer was 45, the youngest was 28, and the oldest was 66. Three quarters were men (which does not mean that these cars were not designed for women and were not chosen by women). And three-quarters of them have a diesel engine in their noses. To be even more precise: 66% chose a weaker and cheaper diesel. And the second best-selling engine? More powerful gasoline engine with 156 horsepower. The one that hid a test 5008 under the hood (a weaker gasoline and a more powerful diesel together scratched less than 10 percent).

Realistically: what is better - gasoline or diesel fuel? This of course depends on what you want from the car. The price is almost the same, and then you just have to decide if you want a more powerful or more economical car. If you choose a more powerful one, that is, gasoline, it will be useful to know the following: this is an already known unit that was created thanks to BMW engineers and has 156 "horsepower" (which is 115 kilowatts) and maximum power. torque of 240 Newton meters already from 1.400 rpm. It's flexible (as evidenced by the mentioned figure in the maximum torque data), quiet, smooth, in a word, the way a modern engine should be.

True, on the test, the flow rate stopped at a little more than ten liters, but that's not bad. A more powerful diesel (we don't have a top selling, weaker diesel yet) consumes a little less than a liter, and we can assume that a weaker diesel won't be much (weaker engines in a big one anyway, heavy cars are more loaded) more economical. However, it should be borne in mind that gas stations are equally priced (like a weaker diesel, of course, two thousandths cheaper than a stronger one), quieter and better controlled. In short, gas station is a very good choice.

Peugeot also took a rather sporty approach to the chassis and steering gear. As expected by Peugeot, it will appeal to more dynamic drivers, so the steering wheel is precise and there is a slight tilt in the corners, given that this is a family minivan. However, the chassis still absorbs wheel shock well.

The cabin is spacious as well as in width, and the 5008 also looks good in terms of roominess and flexibility. The three individual seats of the same width in the second row can be longitudinally moved and folded (when folded they remain upright just behind the front seats), but unfortunately the bottom of the boot does not remain flat in the seven-seat model under test, and access to the third row of seats is not flat. These two, when not in use, hide in the bottom of the boot and can be pulled out and folded in in almost one motion. When folded, they are only reminiscent of the lateral elbow rests on the side of the boot.

The Premium label denotes rich standard equipment (from automatic dual-zone air conditioning via rain sensor to cruise control), and the list of optional equipment on the 5008 test also included a glass roof (recommended), third row of seats (if possible, lower), a translucent display (it pluses are leveled by the unpleasant reflection of its body in the windshield in sunny weather), as well as parking sensors. The latter, of course, can be recommended, but it is worth noting that most of the time the test 5008 did not want to work. ... All this for about 24 thousand (excluding the translucent display), this is a good price. However, this is confirmed by statistics: 5008 is currently one of the best-selling representatives of its class.

evaluation

  • The Peugeot 5008, with its more powerful petrol engine, is among the sportiest minivans out there, but rich test equipment didn't mean a shockingly high price tag. Such a 5008 could give competitors headaches - but only if the quality problems in the test case are just an isolated case ...
