Peugeot 508. Against everyone?

Segment D got boring. All cars drive well, offer plenty of space and look interesting. It is interesting until they fill the streets and become commonplace for us. Will the Peugeot 508 reverse this trend?

Some time ago we received an invitation to a Polish presentation new peugeot 508 near Olsztyn. By coincidence and at the last moment it turned out that I had to go there to see how it was managed new peugeot 508.

But the details are also responsible. Again, different than anywhere else. Vertical LED strips in the form of lion tusks optically narrow the main lamps, but also serve another purpose. Peugeot 508 it had to be recognizable even from a few hundred meters. Do you admit that you succeeded?

There is another beautiful detail - a door without frames. Just like a sports car.

"People's Premium" So what?

Peugeot implements a strategy for launching cars of the People's Premium category on the market. Everyone at the presentation momentarily wondered what the password was, but it was enough to get in. new peugeot 508feel it.

The salon can be trimmed with thin leather, the cherry-colored upholstery makes a particularly pleasant impression. As Peugeot Accordingly, the steering wheel is quite small, and the virtual clock is located above it, when viewed from the driver's point of view.

On the console, of course, we will also see a large screen of the multimedia system with nice buttons. Elegant minimalism reigns throughout the cabin, but at the same time it is "peuge-like" futuristic - and this is a very big plus.

Is there enough space? Yes and no. Sitting behind me (186cm tall), I couldn't complain about the amount of legroom or headroom. This is great, although the car actually seems to be a little smaller.

What is surprising is the equipment list. Lane keeping and speed assistants, active cruise control that adapts to signs - we've seen it work fine, but on a larger scale in this segment, it's not unique. However, the presence of a night vision system is impressive, as it will help us recognize animals or people in poorly lit areas at night.

So what is this “People's Prize”? These cars are better finished, with better equipment, but at a price that doesn't exceed the level of a BMW, Audi or Mercedes. So, we will buy the 508 for 123 zlotys, but the most reasonable versions cost more than 900 zlotys. zloty Looked at through the lens of design or equipment, it seems like a good price. However, those who directly compare the size of the car with the price will be disappointed.

Most importantly, how this Peugeot 508 rides!

We tested several engine options, both a 1.6 hp 225 petrol and a 160 hp diesel.

And we tested them on roads so damaged in the winter that they "cry to the sky for vengeance." Drama. A hole in a hole, in some places you can leave a circle. So riding required concentration, avoiding anything that seemed deeper than 2cm because you couldn't bypass all the cavities.

And still Peugeot 508 it handled the adaptive suspension very well. And this despite the large 18-inch wheels. The suspension is quite quiet and boasts a lot of travel, so it rarely hits bumps.

In Masuria, in addition to damaged roads, we can also find areas with really good asphalt and, in addition, meanders between trees, which contribute to faster and more active driving. In this place Peugeot 508 he demonstrated his sporty style and confident handling. Even when we tried to explore the capabilities of this chassis, we didn't encounter any disturbing behavior.

Of course, the steering wheel could be a little more sociable, but on the other hand, this is not a sports car and does not even pretend to be a sports car. Therefore, the smoothing of its response is understandable, and the rather direct transmission is only intended to increase precision and driving pleasure.

But if someone has 225 hp there is little in the petrol engine, and the front-wheel drive is not enough, a very interesting version will soon be added to the offer. This is a 400-horsepower all-wheel drive hybrid. It sounds exciting!
