Peugeot 607 2.2 HDi (6 gears) Package

But don't wait too soon, as of the three engine versions of the big Peugeot, only one is equipped with a new acquisition. Interesting is the decision of French engineers to install sixth gear in a car that already has the most economical engine in its offer.

Of course, we are talking about the 2.2 HDi unit, which is tuned from the outset with four-valve technology in the head, a common rail injection system, a turbocharger with variable guide vane geometry, a particulate filter and even two equalizing shafts.

The result is a fairly powerful unit (98 kW / 134 hp and 314 Nm), so long trips with it are not tiring. True, the engine, despite its advanced design, experiences slight inconveniences. Engine idling, despite the built-in balance shafts, is still accompanied by engine vibrations that disturb the peace of mind in the passenger compartment.

Therefore, when driving, the latter raises a step higher in sixth gear in the transmission. Thus, the first four gears in the new transmission are recalculated in the same way as in the "old" five-speed transmission, fifth gear is now slightly shorter so that the car reaches top speed in the new sixth gear at correspondingly lower engine rpm.

In this case, the user benefits mainly in two areas. The first is flexibility in fifth gear, the second is lower fuel consumption and lower cabin noise when driving at higher speeds. Thus, the main shaft of the engine at 130 kilometers per hour in sixth gear rotates a little less than 350 rpm slower than in fifth gear.

Peugeot guarantees that in this case the economy reaches 0 liters per 45 km only due to the slower rotation of the engine. Of course, this saving is less on average consumption, but the difference is still noticeable - 100 liters per 0 km. Thus, the average fuel consumption on the test was 3 acres, while previously with a five-speed transmission it was 100 liters per 8 km.

The rest of the 607 is unchanged. The overall ergonomics in the cabin are average, the materials used are of good quality, the rain sensor is still too sensitive and without the possibility of adjusting the sensitivity, there is plenty of longitudinal space on the back bench, but a little bit insufficient in height (for people taller than 1 meter), and the list of standard equipment, especially in the Pack version, very long.

The equipment list for your Peugeot 607 can be expanded even further than before with the purchase of a new one. New flaws include an automatic boot lid closing system and a hands-free device that uses Bluetooth technology to wirelessly connect the phone to the car's wiring.

But the listed comfort is expensive. Specifically, for Test 607, you will deduct 9 million tolars.
