Peugeot 607 2.9 V6 Pack Ivory

Both carry the Pack Ivoire equipment label which is Slovene for "practically clean and everyday equipment", for an extra charge you may only wish for xenon headlights, navigation, memory, seat settings or something similar. A good deal for ten million, if you forget that the Six-Week is not one of the youngest cars.

Make no mistake: the 607 has also undergone a rejuvenation, just like the cars: some new colors and materials in the interior, new rims, and when it comes to shoes, there is also a new tire pressure monitoring system, a system for parking assistance, it now has sensors up front, a new Bluetooth hands-free system, and outside, you also recognize the new Six-Seat from body-colored bumper strips and a new front bumper shape (with a large fresh air vent) three inches longer in front of the front wheels.

This 30mm increase in front overhang is the result of a new heart – a 2-litre turbodiesel (Peugeot just wears the HDi label) with a particulate filter. But more about this version for another time, this time we tested its price equivalent (yes, Peugeot is also one of the brands that “subsidize” diesel car drivers at the expense of petrol car drivers). It has also been slightly refurbished during the rejuvenation. It is now capable of leading 7 smooth horses that are completely silent most of the time, but respond to the rider's increased demands with a muffled growl.

The combination with the six-speed automatic transmission is excellent, and the gearbox's readiness to downshift in time (already under braking) is especially impressive. This eliminates the need for (otherwise possible) manual sequential switching. This car actually exemplifies the essence of an automatic transmission in a good car: getting stuck in D and forgetting everything together. There is always enough power (relatively, of course), there is no need to listen to the hum of a diesel engine, no jerks of the turbocharger. And the consumption, with an average of fourteen liters, is also not too high.

In addition, the automatic has another good feature, namely, it perfectly masks all the negative features of the front-wheel drive, especially in combination with high power and rather soft, comfortable chassis adjustment. The turn of the wheels to neutral (even when cornering) is so small that the stabilization system should not greatly interfere with the communication between the driver and the car.

Chassis? Mostly comfortable, then comfortable, and only in the third - comfortable. It is better not to talk about sportsmanship. Only a few blows pierce the buttocks of passengers, and they hear them before they feel them. It's a pity that the front seats are not so comfortable: there is still not enough longitudinal travel, the same thing with adjusting the depth of the steering wheel, and generally tires larger drivers on long trips.

The best solution (with small passengers in front) is to ride in the rear seats, but the age of the six-seater design is also known here: given the overall length of the car, the wheelbase and therefore the interior length is shorter, so don't expect true space luxury. But for the price, it's not bad at all.

Otherwise, the essence of this "Nipeugeot" comes down to price and equipment. For a good $ 10 million, you get a sleek but otherwise not the most prestigious sedan with a lot of equipment, comfort and performance. Unless you're spoiled by big name brands and a sports limousine (and you're no more than eighty feet tall), you can't get past the six-week pick.

evaluation

  • BMW? Mercedes? Audi? Maybe, but for a lot more money. The 607 offers only a slightly lower level of comfort for a lot less money - a little because of its age (and its associated shortcomings), a little because of the sound of the brand.
