One of the most banal reasons: the master did not completely tighten the drain plug. In motion, it gradually began to unscrew, so the oil ran away. Another similar reason is the desire to save on small things. The fact is that a penny seal is placed under the drain plug and changed with each lubricant change. It is not recommended to use it a second time because when the plug is tightened, it is deformed, ensuring the tightness of the system. Its repeated use can lead to oil leakage, so it's definitely not worth saving on this consumable.

Lubrication can also leave from under the oil filter gasket, because the unfortunate masters did not pull it out or overtightened it during installation. A factory defect of the filter is also possible, in which its body simply cracks along the seam.

A severe leak can also occur after a major engine repair. For example, due to a breakdown of the cylinder block gasket, if the craftsmen assembled the motor poorly or compressed the block head incorrectly. As a result, the head through the gasket is pressed against the block itself unevenly, which leads to breakdowns in places where its tightening is loosened. Relative consolation is that the driver can see the problem himself by smudges of engine oil from under the head of the block.

A drop in oil level can also provoke old problems with the motor. For example, the valve stem seals failed. These parts are made of oil-resistant rubber, but over time, under the influence of high temperature and pressure, the rubber loses its elasticity and ceases to function as a seal.

Leakage can also be caused by problems in the power system. The fact is that when fuel injectors become clogged, they begin not to spray fuel, but to pour into the combustion chamber. Because of this, the fuel burns unevenly, detonation appears, which leads to the appearance of microcracks in the pistons and piston rings. Because of this, oil scraper rings remove the oil film from the working walls of the cylinders inefficiently. So it turns out that the lubricant breaks into the combustion chamber. Hence the increased cost.
