Why You Shouldn't Sell Your Car After Three Years

Most domestic car owners are sure that it is necessary to sell a car that was once purchased new in three years. However, such unanimity in no way testifies to the undeniable truth of such an opinion. There are some arguments against it as well.

Where did this magic number "three" come from? It's very simple - most automakers give exactly a three-year warranty on their cars. And since everyone knows that a car is now made disposable, and it breaks down immediately after the end of the warranty period, then you need to part with it right there without regret, so as not to pay hard-earned money for permanent repairs.

It is worth mentioning one important point. Russian car owners can be conditionally divided into three categories: rich, poor and potters. Naturally, representatives of all three groups have different attitudes towards the car. The rich have their own quirks, and the tinkerers are not driven by rational considerations - their task is to appear wealthy and successful. It is these two categories that set the tone of public opinion, although the vast majority in Russia are not rich people. We will deal with the problems of these latter.

Statistics completely refute the prevailing opinion that the majority throws off their car after three years of operation. Judge for yourself - as of July 1 this year, the average age of passenger cars in Russia is 12,5 years. Moreover, every third car is older than 15 years! Such a long period of ownership, of course, does not indicate a good life. But this is a reality that is completely unacceptable for automakers, official dealers, banks and insurance companies, whose task is to force them to buy their products in as large volumes as possible and change them as often as possible.

Therefore, if you don't have the desire to work for their pocket, or to hop along with changing fashion, then stop and think about what specific reasons you have for selling an old car and buying a new one.

If the car after three years does not fall apart, does not require constant minor repairs - do not be surprised, this still happens quite often - then what is the need to quickly get rid of it? There is no need to remind you: the more carefully and carefully you treated it during the warranty period, the more likely it is that it will repay you with faithful service even after the end of the warranty period. Yes, even if the car needs repair, then it is worth evaluating what will come out more expensive - car service services or selling an old car with an inevitable loss in price and buying a new one, which costs much more.

Why You Shouldn't Sell Your Car After Three Years

Many owners of used cars do not insure them for expensive CASCO, limiting themselves to the necessary OSAGO. With a new car, as a rule, such a feint does not work, which forces the owner to unfasten a considerable amount to insurers every year. This is also an argument in favor of a later change of car. If your family or social status has not changed, urgently requiring a more spacious or prestigious model, there is also no point in bothering with buying and selling.

As for the reduction in the selling price, then everyone is free to calculate their losses in the way that is more convenient for him. However, we must remember that the main loss of value occurs at the time of the departure of a new car from a car dealership, which in one fell swoop turns it into a used one. It is also the first “three-year plan” that is very sensitive for the wallet - the price for which the car is ready to be taken on the secondary market decreases by 10-15% annually, depending on the brand and the initial price. Then the fall in value noticeably slows down.

Of course, if you don’t like your pet, then you can’t trample anywhere - you need to change it. But, in any case, you should not succumb to the unbridled propaganda of manufacturers, by hook or by crook dragging you into car dealerships. It is better to make a decision on a sober head, taking into account all financial and everyday factors.
