Why You Shouldn't Put Winter Windshield Wipers on Your Car in Winter

On the shelves of car dealerships in abundance of various models of wiper blades. Among the usual products, there are also special, so-called winter brushes. They cost much more than usual, and sellers vying to praise their merits. About why you should not trust merchants and fork out for dubious goods, the AvtoVzglyad portal tells.

Good visibility is the key to safety on the road. This is especially important in winter, when the daylight hours are short and there is a lot of snow. Well, the wiper blades are also responsible for good visibility. Understanding this perfectly, manufacturers offer the so-called winter brushes. It is expected that they are much better than conventional products at cleaning snow and water from glass, and also tan less in the cold. They have a price tag to match. A winter product will cost, on average, 3000 rubles, and a regular German-made kit can be bought for 1000 rubles.

Having examined the winter brush, it is easy to see that its design is an ordinary frame “wiper” with a rubber cover that covers the design of this very frame. The author of these lines once installed such brushes for himself and I can say that they did not prove to be very successful. The main disadvantage is that a massive cover significantly impairs aerodynamics, moreover, in a wide range of speeds. Because of this, after three months of operation, uncleaned stripes began to appear on the glass.

And once water got under the cover and froze. As a result, the leashes lost their mobility. I had to take off the “janitor”, knead it in my hands to remove the ice. That is, there is no question of any advantages in winter.

Cheap frame products, which I bought for only 300 rubles, showed themselves much better. Although they did not last long, there were no problems with cleaning the glass. By the way, brushes are a consumable, so they are recommended to be changed more often. Regardless of the design (frame, hybrid, frameless), their working surface wears out quickly. Especially in winter, when in a hurry the driver wants to remove frost from the glass. The washer fluid, the composition of which is aggressive to rubber, also adds its contribution.

Therefore, it is better to change cheap brushes more often than to shell out a decent amount for expensive and inefficient models. By the way, when choosing brushes, follow the recommendations of the automaker. After all, too long brushes will touch each other. Yes, and snuggle up to the glass will become worse. And short products will not cover the desired sector, which will reduce visibility in motion.
