Why not every fire extinguisher with which you can pass inspection will help in trouble

A fire extinguisher must be in any car, but not every one of them can help in extinguishing a fire. The AvtoVzglyad portal tells how to choose this device so as not to get into a mess, and in case of a fire, to knock down the flame.

Once, when I was participating in a rally, an experienced co-driver gave me advice. You know, he says, what to do if a car starts on fire? You need to take documents and run away, because by the time you find a fire extinguisher, the car will already burn down. In most cases, this rule applies, because it is quite difficult to put out a car fire - it burns out in a matter of seconds. However, this can be done if you choose the right weapon to fight the fire.

Alas, many people still consider a fire extinguisher to be an unnecessary thing that only takes up space in a car. That's why they buy cheap aerosol cans. Let's say right away that there is absolutely no benefit from them. Such put out, perhaps, burning paper. Therefore, choose a powder fire extinguisher.

It is noticeably more effective, however, if the mass of the powder in it is only 2 kg, a serious fire cannot be defeated. Although it is such a cylinder that must be presented at the inspection. Ideally, you need a 4-kilogram "cylinder". With it, the chances of knocking down the flame are noticeably increased. True, and it will take up more space.

Many will object, they say, is it not easier to buy two 2-liter fire extinguishers. No, because in the event of a fire, every second counts. As long as you use up the first one and run after the second one, the flame will start again and the car will burn out.

Another tip: before buying a fire extinguisher, put it on its legs and see if it dangles. If yes, then this indicates that the case is too thin, which means that it swells from pressure, so the bottom becomes spherical. It is better not to buy such a fire fighting tool.

Then weigh the fire extinguisher. A normal cylinder with a shut-off and trigger device weighs at least 2,5 kilograms. If the weight is less, then the required 2 kilograms of powder cannot be inside the cylinder.

Finally, if you're buying a device with a hose, look for the plastic sleeve that secures the hose to the lock-and-release mechanism. It is necessary to estimate the number of turns on it. If there are two or three of them, then it is better to refuse to buy: when extinguishing a fire, such a hose will simply be torn off by pressure.
