Why wipers creak strongly after winter and how to get rid of the nasty sound

Spring comes with rains, and the wipers creak disgustingly, forcing you to constantly turn off and on the glass cleaning again. Familiar situation? There is a simple and effective way to solve the problem!

Buying new brushes, alas, will not always help: the fact is that squeaking occurs due to heavy wear in only one case out of ten. To cope with the disgusting sound, as well as decently save on the purchase of a new set of “wipers”, you need to devote only about twenty minutes to your car.

The fact is that the creak is due to a whole pool of problems that cannot be solved by replacing the cleaning element alone. Even after installing a new kit, you can hear the heartbreaking sound again after a few weeks. In order to defeat the problem, it is necessary to approach the issue comprehensively.

Large window cleaner

First of all, you should wash the “windshield” from all deposits accumulated over the winter: salts and reagents, simple dirt and windshield wiper residues create an impenetrable layer of plaque on the glass, which can only be removed by applying certain efforts or special compounds.

Modern glasses are initially made very soft to give them bizarre shapes for the no less bizarre design of modern cars. Therefore, they often form chips even from small pebbles and flying spikes. In order not to damage the glass during a hard wash, it is better not to use scrapers and abrasives: a simple solvent (for example, white spirit) will do the job just fine. Immediately after washing, go through the windshield with a soft and clean cloth dipped in "chemistry". The result will amaze even the battered driver, and the rags will have to be changed more than once.

By the way, immediately after the procedure, you can conduct a test run: it is quite possible that the cause of the unpleasant sound was precisely the plaque on the windshield, and not the wipers.

Complex cleaning

For those who are not in a hurry and want to get a XNUMX% result, it is recommended to do brushes immediately after the windshield. There is no less raid on them, but here one solvent will not do.

The wipers, as well as the windshield wipers, are covered with a thick coating caused by the winter city operation of the car. But you need to wash it off more carefully, because along with the deposits, you can also remove the protective graphite layer of the brushes. Therefore, a few confident movements with a rag will be enough. Solvent residues must be removed.

As soon as the brushes dry, we apply a thin layer of ordinary silicone to the cleaning cloth: from the nightmare of winter precipitation, flavored with aggressive metropolitan chemistry, the gum could become dull - lose flexibility and softness. Technical silicone, sold at any auto parts store, will help return it. If there are leftovers, then they can process the rubber door and hood seals - believe me, they got no less from the winter.

You should not do this: the rubber cleaning element of any wiper blade is multi-component. Removing or damaging one of the layers can cause increased wear, which will quickly lead to the purchase of a new set.
