Used and... worn

Used and... worn Since January of this year, about 100 used cars have entered Poland. Most of them are emergency vehicles. Thousands of auto repair shops “work” for them.

Only caution when buying can save us from loss of health and even life. The wreckage undergoes a kind of "rejuvenation treatment" so that it is impossible to guess that it was ever seriously damaged. Masking treatments hide not only age, but also significant design flaws in post-accident vehicles.

Few of the buyers know that there is one technical test that allows you to detect the most dangerous structural defect in an old car for our health and life - this is a floor slab test.

Studies show that as many as 67% of vehicles under 10 years of age have excessive floor slab deformation. This is a serious deformation of the chassis, consisting in significant deviations of the base points, that is, the "ridge" of the car.

Automakers allow deviations in the position of the base points by three millimeters, while the Polonaise Atu, "refurbished" in 1997, had 7 points displaced by more than 100 millimeters after a head-on collision! (data: Motorsport, February 2002). Such deviations cause a sudden loss of steering control, vehicles unexpectedly falling off the road, or even a vehicle running away while driving at high speeds. Every eighth vehicle operating in Poland is "more than two-wheeled". Western Europe protects against scrap metal by ordering detailed tests, including floor slab inspection.

Of the 1990 million used cars inspected for Poland in 2001–68, more than a million were involved in accidents. 650% of these cars are poorly repaired and pose a safety hazard (data: GUC, SAMAR, Polish Automobile Chamber). Out of more than 1 vehicles tested, only 3/23 had no technical faults. On the other hand, more than XNUMX% must be taken out of service immediately due to excessive deformation of the floor slab.
