The Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 takes SUV luxury to the next level.

Mercedes-Maybach Australia has released pricing and specifications for what could be the most luxurious SUV on the market today, the GLS600.

Deliveries will begin in August. The GLS600 starts at $358,300 plus road expenses and competes with the Bentley Bentayga (starting at $334,700) and Rolls-Royce Cullinan (starting at $659,000) in the large SUV segment.

So the GLS600 costs $102,600 more than the related Mercedes-AMG GLS63, although it takes luxury to a whole other level without being too far behind on performance.

Powered by a 410kW/730Nm 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine, the GLS600 is just 40kW/120Nm behind the GLS63, with both mated to a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission with Mercedes XNUMXWD Matic all-wheel drive . system.

The 48V mild hybrid system, dubbed EQ Boost, is also available with an integrated starter-alternator providing 16kW/250Nm temporary electric boost. It also provides coasting and advanced idle stop functions.

However, the GLS600 is really focused on luxury and it makes an immediate strong impression with its vertical grille slats and vertical Mercedes star on the hood. And on the sides are multi-spoke alloy wheels and illuminated footpegs.

Inside, the GLS600 comes with four seats as standard, although a fifth may be optional, as is the Executive Rear package, which includes two power-tilt rear seats. A fixed center console with folding tables and a champagne bottle cooler can also be installed.

There's also Nappa leather upholstery, plenty of touchscreens and seat heating, cooling and massage functions, and a panoramic sunroof.

The luxury doesn't just feel on the inside, however, as air suspension is standard, although Mercedes' sophisticated E-Active Body Control system may be optional. Either way, Maybach's unique driving mode can optimize NVH levels for second-row passengers.
