2021 Volkswagen Amarok Detailed Pricing: Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger rival gets new TDI580 Aventura variant and smaller lineup

The TDI580 Aventura is already on sale in markets such as New Zealand. Will the Australian version be the same?

Volkswagen Australia will soon offer another upscale 4×4 double cab variant of the popular Amarok V6 pickup truck: the TDI580 Aventura is due to arrive around March, while its wider range has been downsized and will continue to do so.

As of model year 21, the Amarok is no longer available with a 4×2 drivetrain or cab-chassis body, so the ute can now only be used as a 4×4 double cab pickup. However, the 4×4 TDI420 Core Plus double cab pickup also out of production.

It should be noted that the 4×4 double cab pickup truck variants of the TDI550 Canyon, TDI580 SE and TDI580S were special editions for the MY20 and therefore were not carried over (see pricing table below for details on current variants).

Speaking to Cars Guide, a spokesman for Volkswagen Australia confirmed that there will be even more changes to the Amarok lineup, with several "low-volume" full-fledged variants also ending soon, "although they remain available for now."

While the company has yet to reveal what options are on the cutting board, the TDI550 Highline ($61,090 plus travel costs) is an obvious candidate due to its close positioning to the high-performance TDI580 Highline ($61,990). And for what it's worth, the TDIXU Ultimate ($580K) is also no longer listed on the Volkswagen Australia website.

It should also be noted Cars Guide may report that the upcoming TDI580 Aventura will start at $72,490, though the company says full specs will be released on December 1.

Created as a potential replacement for the TDI580 Ultimate, the TDI580 Aventura is a new stock variant that marks the complete transition of the TDI580 line from Hannover, Germany to Pacheco, Argentina, with the former site recently converted to create the new Volkswagen ID family. fully electric cars.

At the moment it is known that the TDI580 Aventura will be equipped with a 6-liter Amarok V3.0 turbodiesel engine, which develops power up to 200 kW (when boosted) and 580 Nm of torque.

This unit is again paired with an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission and Volkswagen's 4Motion permanent all-wheel drive system in the TDI580 Aventura model.

And if the TDI580 Aventura nameplate sounds familiar, it's because a more powerful version of the 580 Amarok V6 TDI engine debuted in its concept at the '2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The TDI580 Aventura has since entered series production and has been sold in several markets, and upcoming Australian examples are likely to be similar to their international counterparts, headlined by a body-coloured sports bar with "Aventura" badging.
