CONFIRMED: 2021 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray to launch in Australia next year under new GMSV branding

The Corvette Stingray has finally been confirmed for Australia.

Again and again, the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has finally been confirmed for Australia, with the fire-breathing muscle car coming in right-hand drive next year under the newly created GMSV brand.

It's word from GM, and the brand has finally confirmed that the long-awaited muscle car will get a local launch after all.

Holden has already confirmed the Corvette for our market, but GM's decision to shut down the iconic brand here has put those launch plans in doubt. Neither Holden nor GM, until today, were willing or able to confirm right-hand drive production for our market.

In other words, rejoice because the Corvette numbers are really hard to believe. The base mid-engined C8 will hit a staggering 312 km/h thanks to a powerful 6.2-litre LT2 V8 engine capable of delivering a hefty 370kW of power and 640Nm of torque. high speed dual clutch automatic.

The Corvette will be a key element of GM's new GMSV strategy in Australia, essentially replacing the HSV brand here. A number of existing Holden or HSV dealerships will be rebranded as GMSVs, while the Chevrolet Silverado, still converted locally by the Walkinshaw team, and Corvette will become halo models.

“I am proud to announce the launch of GM Specialty Vehicles, which represents an important new investment for GM in Australia,” said GM Holden Interim Chairman and Managing Director Christian Akilina. “This new venture directly adds sales, marketing and aftersales roles to GM's 200-strong presence in Australia and indirectly supports over 150 skilled engineering and manufacturing jobs at our partner in Victoria.

“The initial product line will include the latest Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ, as well as other derivatives including the Silverado 2500 and the impressive mid-engined Corvette, both expected in 2021.”

It's not yet clear what other models GM will consider for Australia, but it's unlikely to remain a two-model brand for long.
