Poland is the European leader in the export of lithium-ion batteries. Thank you LG Chem [Puls Biznesu]

Poland becomes the European leader in the production and export of lithium-ion cells. All thanks to the South Korean company LG Chem, which placed its factory here - and, of course, because of the huge demand for batteries almost all over the world.

According to Puls Biznesu, in the first quarter of 2019, we sold 11,4 thousand tons of cells and batteries. This is as much as 40 percent of all EU exports during this period! Minuses? Kamil Pastor from Spotdata platform noticed that goods from Poland are sold 33% cheaper than from Germany. Moreover, Germany has a vast domestic market that Poland does not.

It is Germany that will leave the Volkswagen ID.3, which will begin serial production at the end of the year.

LG Chem has one plant in Kobierzyce: today it has a capacity of 20 GWh, but ultimately it should grow to 70 GWh cells per year. In addition, according to one of the Puls Biznesu experts, “[the manufacturer] has guaranteed a certain competitive advantage” and has occupied the niche of small cars (source).

In turn, the Polish Investment and Trade Agency reports that it supports 21 projects in the e-mobility sector in Poland. The most expensive ones relate to the production of lithium-ion batteries and cells. It is known that the battery plant will be located near Javor Daimler., it is also known that LG Chem is likely to build a second plant near Opole... And together with batteries and cells, the knowledge that we have as medicine flows to Poland.

The global demand for electrical components is so great that many people work for LG Chem. The company even launched a large-scale television campaign, in which it encourages people to move to Wroclaw and work at the concern's plant:
