The new Mini vehicles are equipped with a state-based electronic on-board maintenance system that is linked to the dashboard and tells drivers when service is required. How the Mini-by-Condition Maintenance System Works and What to Expect
Mini's condition-based maintenance system actively monitors wear and tear on the engine and other vehicle components using special sensors and algorithms. This system monitors the life of oil, brake pads, brake fluid, spark plugs and other critical engine components. The vehicle will display the number of miles to or the date when certain maintenance is due on the dashboard when the vehicle is turned on.
The system monitors oil life by mileage, fuel consumption and oil quality information from a sensor located in the oil pan. Certain driving habits can affect oil life as well as driving conditions such as temperature and terrain. Lighter to moderate driving conditions and temperatures will require less frequent oil changes and maintenance, while more severe driving conditions will require more frequent oil changes and maintenance.
