Porsche Cayenne GTS - big jet

First, an announcement for business class passengers: for the sake of valuable time, we invite you to check in first. We're glad you're with us and we'll get straight to the point. If you are convinced to buy a Porsche and the 911 seems like the best fit for you, but the rest of the family, including the dog, disagrees, please take your seats and our staff will show you what to do in this case. before the purchase.

The Germans are doing the same with the new Cayenne as with its predecessor. This one hit the market first as the Porsche Cayenne and Cayenne S, then the Turbo, and everyone was already waiting for the Turbo S, but the GTS was already crammed into the queue. The new Cayenne rides in the same way (maybe except for the diesel versions, which we don’t talk about here, so that the journey is not long). So, we already have five petrol versions of the Cayenne on the market.

And what is the poor Lord going to do with this huge selection of models? What to choose? Oh, sorry, you're not poor at all - otherwise you wouldn't be in business class. Here's a hint: the base gas-powered Porsche Cayenne is out for obvious reasons - your friend bought one for his wife, and she drives it with a green leaf on the windshield. On the other hand, the Porsche Cayenne S has half of its MBA peers. Do you want to stand out, but the Cayenne Turbo is too ostentatious for your quiet business? It's better not to talk about the Turbo S, because driving it is addictive, like a drug. So what's left?

It's good that there is a Cayenne GTS. Just take a look. It looks better than the S, and is faster and more aggressive than it. It's slightly more expensive but better equipped, with a modern and fast gearbox lowered as standard and a great-sounding exhaust. For people unfamiliar with the Porsche nomenclature, the name is clear - the letters GT in the name take care of that. Everyone knows that it must be something extra. The GTS accelerates a little slower than the Turbo version, turns just as well, sounds even better, and is much, much cheaper than the Turbo. We recommend, we invite you to car dealerships, a test drive will be a complete stop.

We have just landed at our destination port, we hope that the trip went quickly and we look forward to seeing you again.

And now a message for the rest of the passengers: thanks for your patience, but you understand - we had to let those who are on business. Now we will tell you a little about this car. It will take some time because there is a lot to talk about, but you probably have more time than these business connections… Well, first of all, I hasten to explain the title of the article. First of all, it was necessary to justify the start of the flight, so I thought a little. Secondly, this car really deserves this title: it is modern, big and fast, like a plane at the airport.

First, a little history. I mentioned the previous GTS, which overtook the Turbo S in 2007. It had 405 hp, 500 Nm under the hood, went from 6,5-253 mph in 15 seconds, and had a top speed of 17 km/h. In recent years, these figures have convinced more than XNUMX XNUMX customers around the world (about % of all Cayennes sold).

How will it be this time? It will be good and even better. The new Porsche Cayenne GTS is the link between the Cayenne S and Turbo and is the perfect combination. From the “eski”, he has a 4,8 hp naturally aspirated engine under the hood. (i.e. increased by 420 hp) and the Turbo version has some exterior embellishments such as larger air intakes, a redesigned bumper or headlights that shine with four strong points. LED light. The car has acquired sharp accents and it is clear that this is not an “esque”, but everything is in moderation.

Except for the roar of the engine. The Cayenne GTS may not sound like a jet, but you can feel the energy in it that can propel a Jumbo Jumbo at an airport. The shockwave from the exhaust can be caused by pushing the gas down, manual slides can also give juicy shots from the engine when gasped, but the best moment is to start the engine - the engine immediately spins up to high speeds, waking up in horror doves, attracting the attention of passers-by, and in underground garage ... you have to hear it yourself.

The only thing missing here is turning on the alarms of the other cars in the parking lot, right? Because I haven’t pressed the Sport button yet, additional flaps open between the exhaust nozzles and the last mufflers, which, due to the lower resistance of the exhaust system, give the engine vigor and extra bass decibels. Then it gets really nice. So much so that I feel sorry for Porsche because it tells me to reactivate sport mode every time the engine is turned on.

Therefore, it is not surprising that after several days of driving, I could not answer the question of whether the car is equipped with some expensive branded audio equipment. There was something there, but I wasn't listening - all I needed was a symphony of sheer power from a naturally aspirated, squeal-free V8 turbocharger.

Power 420 km and 515 Nm these are impressive parameters and on a straight line this engine shows that it does not need a turbine for happiness. My own acceleration measurements for this two-ton giant are 2,8 seconds to 50 km/h, 5,9 seconds to 100 km/h, and acceleration from 60-100 in 4th gear takes just 4,9 seconds.

Subjectively, the driving experience is even more interesting. The first signal that the car is going to sweep is the ass, sorry. Already sitting down, I feel the profile of the seat in the chair. This is not a comfortable, wide rocking chair for long trips. Here we are dealing almost with a bucket seat in the civilian version. Or rather, in the deluxe edition - leather upholstery (as standard) with heating, ventilation and adjustment in several planes. The only thing missing is a massage… although no, there is no lack of it. The back massager is located under the hood. The strength of the massage is regulated by the right foot and this is the only device that massages one person and everyone groans around: “wow” - as if they saw a Jumbo Jet on Zakobyanka.

What impresses in the Porsche Cayenne GTS, however, is not so much the engine as the car as a whole. The car is tuned for fast driving and it is impossible to find any element here that would be a weak link. It slows down, as if throwing an anchor, runs like a string, turning even the slightest turn of the steering wheel with ostentatious accuracy, quickly selects the desired gear from eight available ones and, finally, accelerates like a rocket, making no less noise. and giving a sense of every horsepower and every newton meter. The GTS is half a ton lighter and half a meter lower than a sports car. Well, after hardening the shock absorbers, turning on the Sport mode and lowering the suspension, you can try to compare it with karting.

It’s good that the seats are ventilated, because after a dozen or two minutes of fast cornering, I feel a little overheated. A few words of praise for the Tiptronic S gearbox. While using the manual mode is possible using the jack, or using the buttons under both hands, the easiest way to select the desired gear is under ... my right foot. The gearbox is so suited to my driving style that the manual mode should be called training. After several attempts to find out in 8th gear, I finish the workout (with an average score) and return to automatic mode, which does everything better and faster. After a hard press on the accelerator, it immediately shifts into a lower gear, when braking with a roar, it lowers again, maintaining high speeds, useful for subsequent accelerations or braking on a descent. It reads my driving style well, not shifting into 7th or 8th gear, even when driving faster. Only with significant braking do I shift gears earlier and after a while I ride in 8th gear at 100 km / h at 1850 rpm.

Time to unwind: I put the dampers in Comfort mode, raise the suspension, turn off the Sport and auto modes. And then the GTS turns from a beefy athlete into a quiet family SUV. Maximum calm and comfortable on 21-inch wheels. Its dual nature makes the car a truly versatile vehicle.

Cayenne GTS theoretically can prove its versatility and off the pavement. Four-wheel drive with an electronically controlled interaxle multi-plate clutch does not wait for slips - it prevents them by juggling Newton meters on individual axles. To be honest, I've only tested it on pavement - I chose to keep those thin tires wrapped with huge screaming rims, and I didn't drive the GTS off-road.

I will also mention a strange thing, which covers the entire Cayenne line. Recently I was at the presentation of a new model from another German manufacturer. The host showed a picture of the center console, which had dozens of buttons, and said apologetically, "I know it's a bit much, but the car isn't an iPad." I don't know what the Cayenne designers had in mind, but they should have asked the boss for the maximum number of buttons within reach of the driver, and the boss should have said 100. Believe it or not, there are exactly 100 of them in the Cayenne.K Fortunately, the tested version was not fully equipped and 5 buttons were blanks, so I had child's play: I only had to deal with 95 buttons. And a touch screen. With all due respect… I know that the machine is not an iPad, but it is not the headquarters of a nuclear power plant, so I say “No” to such crazy aspirations! Please simplify!

And in the end a word or two about what you in business class don't worry about as much as we do here in economy class. So money. They have it, and we keep asking, "How much does she smoke?" They must be bored, but not me. So I will answer the most frequently asked question: 11-13 liters on the highway (depending on driving style), and 18-20 in the city, but to buy such a miracle you need to have about 450 liters ready. zloty.

How to sum up this car? If I remember correctly (because I started writing it the day before yesterday), the title of this text is "Big Jet". Therefore, I was looking for inspiration for the lyrics of the Angus Stone song of the same name and at the very beginning I found the words "She drives me crazy." I'm not looking any further. This is a match.
