Porsche Expo will be held in Australia

The first screening will take place at the annual historical meeting on Phillip Island from 18 to 20 March. The cars will also be featured at the Targa Tasmania, Longford Revival, other motorsport events and possibly the Australian Grand Prix.

Dealerships will also show some vehicles on a schedule that has yet to be announced. Free displays are on display to celebrate Porsche's 60th anniversary in Australia.

The highlight is the 935 Moby Dick with its long, aerodynamic rear end and 621 kW turbocharged six-cylinder boxer engine. The svelte coupe hit 366 km/h at Le Mans in 1978.

One of the famous 956/962 racing cars, which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans seven times between 1982 and 1994, is also part of the collection. The show car is the Rothmans 962, which was won in 1987 by Derek Bell, Hans Stuck and Al Holbert.

The show will also showcase two Porsche open-top cars that dominated the Targo Florio road race in Sicily. These are the 718 RS 60 Spyder that won in 1960 (and 36 years later won the Targa Tasmania Handicap with Jochen Mass at the wheel) and the 908/02 Spyder that took the first four places in the 1969 Targo Florio.

The 911 SC, driven by Walter Rohrl in the grueling 1980 Sanremo Rally, completes the motorsport lineup, while the iconic 2003 Carrera GT road car brings a modern touch to Porsche's past.

Porsche Cars Australia managing director Michael Winkler says every car on show is in working order. Australia became the first right-hand drive export market for Porsche and one of the first export markets after a chance meeting between Porsche 356 designer Ferry Porsche and enterprising Australian Norman Hamilton in Gmund, Austria in early 1951.

A burgundy 356 Coupe and a silver 356 Cabriolet were the first Porsches to be exported to Australia in October of that year. Since then, over 22,100 Porsche vehicles have been sold here. Porsche Museum Ambassador Klaus Bischoff will accompany the cars at some of the events.
