Energy consumption in the home after purchasing a plug-in hybrid AND electrician: consumption is still the same, prices are rising, but ... [Reader Part 2/2]

In the previous section, we showed how the energy consumption in our reader's home increased when he bought the plug-in hybrid. In short: consumption was 210 percent higher, but the switch to the G12AS anti-smog tariff helped keep costs down. Now the second and last part: buying electrics and ... an end to low prices at an anti-smog rate.

In September 2019, our reader, Mr. Tomasz, decided to replace the Toyota Auris HSD with an electric BMW i3, which he himself imported from Germany (which he explains in detail on his fan page HERE).

> Used BMW i3 from Germany, or my path to electromobility - part 1/2 [Czytelnik Tomek]

Energy demand was expected to rise again, but this has not happened. And this despite the fact that now there were two charging machines in his house. How does he explain this paradox? Well, the BMW i3 has become his family's primary vehicle. We suspect this is because it is smaller, more agile, and thanks to its larger battery, it can travel much longer distances on a single charge.

Outlander PHEV has a short range (up to 40-50 km on a single charge), requires refueling with gasoline or plugging into a power outlet. And this happened sometimes, to which the readers were on their guard - after buying the consumption band, the daily tariff also increased slightly:

The electric BMW i3 is so much more convenient that it can be done quite quickly and for free even charge the charging stations (11 kW) or leave them for longer in a P&R car park or mall. With a power of 11 kW, we get up to 11 kWh. in an hour, and that's good + 70 kilometers! In addition, our Reader also tried Orlen / Lotos / PGE fast chargers - also for free.

Consumption falls, costs rise as the G12as gets more expensive

Thanks to all these optimizations From September 2019 to March 2020, the total energy consumption was 3 kWh., of which 1 kWh accounted for the night tariff... Consumption fell, but costs rose to PLN 960 per day and PLN 660 per night. For a total amount of 1 zł.

Recall: a year earlier, in the same period, there was 1 kWh per day (900 zł) and 2 kWh at night (PLN 250)for a total amount of 1 zł. Consumption has decreased, costs have increased. Why?

With the removal of Krzysztof Churzewski from the government and the liquidation of the Ministry of Energy. G12as Anti-Smog Promotional Tariff Expired. Energy prices soared to 60 cents during the day and 40 cents at night. As before, the car could pass PLN 4. For 100 km, now – when charging only at home, at night – the fare has increased to PLN 8. / 100 km.

> Energy Price in Tariffs Against Smog Rises [High Voltage]

This is still very small, but not as small as before. We recently calculated that we reach this level of cost in an internal combustion vehicle when we drive a very economical model and when LPG costs PLN 1/5/litre and petrol costs PLN 2/litre. Of course, in an internal combustion vehicle, we still cannot use bus lanes, park for free in the city (except in exceptional situations) or fill up for free 🙂

> How much does gas have to cost for an internal combustion car to be as cheap as an electric car? [WE COUNT]

Next step: solar roof farm

Our reader loved the trip for pennies... Therefore, he decided that, having calmed the situation, he would install 10-12 photovoltaic panels with a capacity of about 3,5 kW on the southern part of the roof (it will no longer fit). They should cover just over half of his home's annual energy needs.

The G12as anti-smog tariff on the PGE does not allow being a prosumer. He also ceased to be financially attractive, so Mr. Tomas will refuse it in favor of a different tariff from the G12 group..

And firmly declares: he sees no return to driving an internal combustion car... Even if the price of fuel falls. Electricity can be produced from the sun at home, with gasoline there is no chance. Not to mention, electric vehicles are much more fun to drive.

Editorial note www.elektrowoz.pl: Demand for electricity varies depending on the size of the household, the type of equipment used, and even whether people work locally or remotely. Our Reader has a relatively low energy consumption - for the home. The higher the consumption, the less noticeable will be the increase in electricity bills after buying a plug-in car.
