The first images of the new DeLorean Alpha 5 EV have appeared

DeLorean continues to develop its new electric vehicle based on the original DMC-12. With significant and rather interesting changes, DeLorean will offer 5 available versions of this model, which are planned for release in 2024.

The new DeLorean company just released images of their Alpha 5 electric car. It's the same company that sells aftermarket parts for the original you're familiar with from the Back to the Future movie trilogy. But this is a much more ambitious attempt to keep the DeLorean name going forward.

What benefits does the DeLorean Alpha 5 offer?

Like the original, it has distinctive gullwing doors and air vents above the rear window. But now at a much faster rate than before. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.99 seconds. The revived DeLorean will be powered by a 100kWh battery with a top speed of 155mph. It also has a range of 300 miles.

There will be five different models on offer called Alpha, Alpha 2, Alpha 3, Alpha 4 and the Alpha 5 shown here. Sounds pretty simple, doesn't it? 5 is the best option for power and fit.

Who designed this new DeLorean?

Does this brand new design match the original Italdesign design? Originally written by legendary designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, it continues this line as DeLorean once again teams up with the design house. But now it belongs to the Volkswagen Group.

The flat surface and hard-edged design of the original carried over into the original. In some ways, it was similar to the VW Rabbit, also designed by Italdesign. However, now the surfaces of the case are rounded and the upper part is separated from the main body. A design element also since the original was the integration of the top into the bottom of the case. But this new version still has the same general wedge shape as the DMC-12.

Will the new DeLorean be designed for two or four passengers?

But in reality, everything is not the same as in the original, including the accommodation of four people instead of two. Combined with the aerodynamic wheels, closed grille and rear diffuser, the drag coefficient is just 0.23. It is very similar in size to the Porsche Taycan.

Inside the cabin is clean, there is nothing strange that could break the integrity of the view. There are two large touch screens, one located on the center console and the other in front of the driver. The sports seats look ready to go.

When will Alpha 5 be available?

The car will debut in August at Pebble Beach. Production will start in 2024 in Italy. The first 88 will be prototypes and will not be street legal. After that, mass production will begin.

The company says this is just the first of several models it plans to release. He's also developing a V8-powered sports coupe, which seems a bit odd since everyone else is on an electric train. After that, according to Autocar, it will produce a sports sedan and eventually a hydrogen-powered SUV. The last two should give more volume to the company, but hydrogen? Let's see.

Company CEO Joost de Vries said: “We need an SUV to increase volume. The business case is an SUV that will be launched very quickly after we launch our Halo vehicle, but first we need this Halo vehicle.” When asked about the strange combination of V8 engine, electric car and hydrogen power, de Vries said that "there is no one road to Rome."
