We often think about lubricating our chain, but over time it gets dirty and takes care of a paste that is both waterproof and abrasive due to the stored dust. The danger is that this bandit, which surrounds the seals, prevents the grease from entering, allowing the seals to rotate dry. I used to be ugly ... Now I use Kettenmax!

To avoid this phenomenon, the only solution is good cleaning. But not only in some way or in something. First of all, the product: no aggressive solventsuch as brake cleaner, gasoline, trichlorine, thinner or even diesel.

Any aggressive liquid dries out. There are seal compatible products on the market, but a simple bottle of rhodomatized oil like Kenya would work very well for a few euros.

We must not abuse this either. Do not immerse the gasket in this type of product. If the seal is slightly worn out, the degreaser goes in and the chain is screwed on !!!

You can also use an HP cleaner, but you have to go in moderation without directing the jet at the seals. After all, it's best to invest in a tool that will serve you for a long time. We bought a kettenmax on sale for € 18,95 (+ transport around € 8,00). There is also a cleaning + grease kit (2 ml aerosols) that does not attack the O-rings. It is available for € 500 on sale with no additional shipping costs. The advantage of this solution is to provide a clean and efficient operation without applying a chain.

Equipped with brushes, tank and fittings to inject cleaner and recover contaminated product, then lubricates the chain from all sides.

First, you need to adapt the length of the brushes to the width of your chain. The ideal size is when the space between the brushes is equal to the width of the rollers. This provides sufficient pressure for good brushing. If the brushes are worn out or you have chains of different widths, brushes are sold separately (€ 1,5 for each side brush and € 4 for each horizontal brush)

Close the cover with rubber straps.

Then, using the provided hooks and cord, attach everything to a fixed point to immobilize it when turning the wheel in the direction of travel. The sidestand often does the job very well.

Fill the bottle with a cleaning agent, like here from an aerosol, or more simply use a dearomatized oil in the bottle.

Now connect the cleaning tank to the side openings of the case, front and bottom. Then the one on the back will be used for lubrication. Place the vessel below the low outlet for the contaminated product. Raise the motorcycle wheel by placing a wedge against the side stand if you do not have a center stand. Ready!

Place the bottle high and turn the wheel in the direction of travel, pushing down on the bottle if necessary to draw the liquid out more quickly.

Continue until the bottle is empty or the chain is clear.

Place the kettenmax and gently wipe the chain with a cloth to remove the cleaner before lubricating.

Take a break from Kettenmax and plug the aerosol directly into the previously unused rear side port. Rotate the chain to release the grease in the aerosol

And here's the job, a clean and well-oiled chain, no pollution everywhere! When finished, discard the Kettenmax and collect the contaminated product. Do not throw it into sewers or nature. The simple solution is to put it in an old oil can and place it with drainage oil in a landfill. It will be handled and recycled properly.
