Store motorcycle equipment properly

When it comes to storage, are you more methodical or messy? We thought that anyway, you might find some tips on how to better organize your motorcycle equipment might be useful.

Proper storage of motorcycle equipment is, above all, a matter of common sense. You can imagine that putting everything in a hurry on a chair is not the best solution. In fact, each piece of equipment has its ideal storage. We focus on each one below!

Jacket and pants: on a hanger

The One: On a hanger, which itself hangs on the counter, without a zipper, in a room with room temperature, with good ventilation and not too close to a heat source (especially for leather, textiles are less sensitive to it).

Not to do : Lock it in a closet or damp room as this will encourage mold growth, especially after a rainstorm. Hang it on a radiator to dry (danger of deformation or damage to the skin), or leave it in direct sunlight for a long time. Place the jackets on a hanger.

If you are not at home: A chair back that is not too sharp and away from the roadway can help. It will always be better than a parrot-style hanger or a hook that concentrates weight in a small area, at the risk of warping your jacket or trousers.

Helmet: Air

The One: In its dust cover, the screen is slightly open to allow air to circulate, placed on a slightly high shelf for shock protection in a well-ventilated area and always at room temperature.

Not to do : Put it on the ground, place it on its shell (risk of falling, scratching the varnish or even loosening the shell in a pinch), put your motorcycle gloves inside (this will stain the foam at high speed). Big V), keep it dirty (the mesh is covered in insects, which will be more difficult to clean later), wear it on a retro, or balance it on your motorcycle's saddle or tank (danger of falling).

If you are not at home: Place it on the table or seat of the chair mentioned above. On a motorcycle, place it on the tank, resting against the handlebars (multiple support points provide stability), or hang it from the mirror with the chin strap.

Motorcycle Gloves: Especially not wearing a helmet!

The One: Leave gloves in a heated and ventilated area, hang or place on a shelf.

Not to do : Place them on the heatsink, as excess heat converts to leather cardboard and impairs the breathability of waterproof membranes. Place them in a box or plastic bag, because moisture left by your hands or the weather should naturally evaporate. And, as mentioned above, do not store them in your helmet.

If you are not at home: If nothing else is better, you can store them between the helmet carrying case and the helmet itself. Otherwise, find a seat on the chair!

Motorcycle boots: open then close

The One: Feet sweat more than the rest of the body, leave the shoes open for a few hours to speed up drying, and then close them again to prevent deformation, especially in summer. Store them slightly elevated to keep them away from cool ground, in a not too cold and well-ventilated area.

Not to do : Lock them in a box or closet every time they come back, put your socks inside (they obstruct air circulation), store them in a damp and cool room, expose them to too much heat.

If you are not at home: Do your best: under the famous chair or under the table, in the corners of the room ...

Effort saving tips

As you can see, excess should be avoided. Too much heat, too much cold, too much humidity, no air circulation, so many less than optimal conditions to keep your equipment in top condition for a long time. At the very least, it will require more maintenance: applying cream to the skin to nourish it more regularly, cleaning the fabric or the inside of the helmet, which will get dirty faster, etc. These are actually tips that will help you save more work in the future!

I hope these common sense tips will help you keep your gear in top condition over time. If you have any tips to share with other readers, don't hesitate: there are comments for that!
