Checking and replacing fuses
The electrical circuits of the car are protected from short circuits by fuses. This greatly reduces the chance of damage due to electrical problems.
To check the fuse, look at the silver strip inside the fuse. If the tape is torn or melted, replace the fuse. Be sure to replace the defective fuse with a new one of the same size and rating.
Fuses of the same amperage can be temporarily taken elsewhere if the fuse is blown. Replace the fuse as soon as possible.
Note
- Before replacing a fuse, make sure the key is removed from the ignition and all communications are turned off and/or disconnected.
- When replacing a blown fuse, it is important to use only a fuse with the correct current rating. Use of a fuse with a different rating than specified may result in a dangerous overload of the electrical system.
- If the correct rated fuse continues to blow, this indicates a circuit problem that needs to be corrected.
Fuse box in the glove box
Access to the fuse box
To get access:
- Open the glove box.
- Remove the shock absorber from the carriage by sliding it forward.
- Separate the glove box by pressing both latches and folding it.
The plastic clips are located in the junction box. Information on the purpose of the fuses can be found next to the junction box. Replacement fuses are available from your BMW Centre. After replacing the fuse, lift the glove box until it clicks into place and reinstall the damper.

Never attempt to repair a blown fuse or replace a defective fuse with a fuse of a different color or amperage; otherwise, it may overload the circuit, eventually causing the car to catch fire.
