The S-Cross has entered its third generation.

Suzuki has unveiled the third-generation S-Cross small SUV, which features updated exterior and interior styling, as well as new multimedia and safety technologies.

According to Suzuki Australia, the new S-Cross will hit local showrooms sometime next year. Cars Guide understands that it could be released as early as the first quarter.

In any case, the latest release of the S-Cross series appears to be a major facelift to its predecessor: its front and rear fascias have, as expected, been given an overhaul along with the cockpit.

Design highlights include more rectangular LED headlights, a larger grille with a single horizontal stripe, a smaller rear window, linked clear taillights, a multimedia system with a 7.0- or 9.0-inch "floating" touchscreen, and a reconfigured center console.

The S-Cross is now 4300mm long (with a wheelbase of 2600m), 1785mm wide and 1585mm high, with a boot capacity of 430 liters.

Local specs have yet to be fixed, but the S-Cross will still be offered with a 1.4-liter BoosterJet turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine with Suzuki's signature AllGrip all-wheel drive system.

Front-wheel drive can also be installed from the factory, along with two transmission options: a six-speed manual and a six-speed torque converter automatic.

But what version of the engine Australia will get remains to be seen. A 103kW/220Nm version is currently available locally, but a 95kW/235Nm variant is available to European customers with a 10kW/50Nm 48V mild hybrid system that helps save fuel.

Fresh hardware includes a wireless smartphone charger and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless connectivity for the 9.0-inch touchscreen (7.0-inch device supports wired connection only).

Advanced driver assistance systems extend to autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control (with stop and go function), traffic sign recognition, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and surround view cameras.

Australian pricing will be confirmed closer to the local launch of competitors Mitsubishi ASX, Mazda CX-30, Hyundai Kona, Subaru XV and Kia Seltos. For reference, the second-generation S-Cross costs between $29,740 and $31,240 plus travel expenses.
