Pre-safe

The safety device developed by Mercedes is somewhat similar to the PRE-Crash, but much more complex.

PRE-SAFE can optimally prepare the car for a possible impact detected by the system, effectively using the precious seconds that precede an accident. Sensors for ESP and BAS, as well as other systems including Distronic Plus, recognize critical situations such as oversteer and understeer, dangerous steering maneuvers and emergency braking.

Pre-safe

If the PRE-SAFE system detects a hazard, the front windows and sunroof can be closed and the front passenger seat returned to a more correct position. The side cushions of the active multicontour seats are inflated with air, allowing passengers to sit more securely and better follow the movement of the vehicle. Additional protection is provided by the intervention of the PRE-SAFE braking system (on request). In fact, when a rear-end collision hazard is detected, the system warns the driver not only visually and audibly, but also with a tactile signal. If the driver does not respond, the PRE-SAFE braking system can initiate emergency braking, thereby helping to prevent a collision or otherwise reduce the severity of the accident.
