The new-generation Mercedes-AMG C63 is expected to be unveiled later this year, replacing its V8 with an electrified four-cylinder engine.

It's time to say goodbye to the beloved V8 engine as the automotive industry moves towards electrification and downsizing to meet exhaust emissions targets.

We've already seen the Holden Commodore, Ford Falcon and Chrysler 300 die out for various reasons, but the V8 engine will come out of even more models in the near future.

So if you think there's no substitute for displacement, here are the endangered V8 models that are still available now, but probably not anytime soon.

Although it has yet to be officially confirmed, the latest rumors indicate that the next-generation Patrol off-road SUV will drop its V8 engine due to a coating failure in the next few years.

As the current Australian version of the big SUV uses a 5.6kW/8Nm 298-litre petrol V560, the next version is rumored to switch to a twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6.

The V6 is expected to be just as powerful as the V8, if not more, but - as with the demise of the Toyota LandCruiser diesel V8 - those who want a big, curved-eight SUV may want to act fast.

Mercedes-AMG C63

The next generation Mercedes C63 will ditch the ubiquitous AMG twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine in favor of an electrified four-cylinder engine. Name the broken hearts around the world.

It's not all bad news, as the electrified four-cylinder engine will likely outperform the 375kW/700Nm V8 that was available in the outgoing C63 S, but switching to an engine with half as many cylinders can be difficult for some fans. .

Don't think this will be the end of the Mercedes V8, as the V63 will likely continue to be offered in larger models like the EXNUMX and dedicated sports cars like the next generation AMG GT.

Lexus LC500

With Lexus and parent company Toyota heading into electrification, Lexus' 5.0-litre V8 petrol is probably on its last legs.

While the engine is offered in the RC F, IS500 and GS F, it is currently only offered in the flagship LC500 in Australia.

With 351kW/540Nm, the 5.0-liter V8 isn't the most powerful V8 available, but it certainly makes the LC even more attractive.

Lexus has said its next performance flagship will be an all-electric model and retain the beloved LFA's DNA, so this could be the end of the Lexus V8 lineup.

Aston Martin Vantage

Borrowing AMG's 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, the Aston Martin Vantage offers plenty of performance with tuning up to 387kW/685Nm.

But that may not be for long, as the brand recently revealed plans to downsize the powertrain for future versions of the Vantage, as well as the DB11 and DBX.

As AMG moves towards an electrified four-cylinder, Aston said it is working on a 6-liter V3.0 hybrid engine.

The power and torque are said to be the same as the previous V8, but the exact figures are yet to be confirmed.

Jeep Grand Cherokee

Unfortunately, the V8-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee is no longer available in Australia as the new generation model will switch to a V6 unit.

That means the potential of a new generation SRT or Trackhawk doesn't look very good, but as recently as last year, the Grand Cherokee was offered with three different V8 engines rated at 259kW/520Nm, 344kW/624Nm and 522kW/868Nm.

Meanwhile, the new Grad Cherokee will be launched later this year with a 210kW/344Nm 3.6-litre V6 engine, with a plug-in hybrid also expected in the future.
